    A venerable Cantonese restaurant which first opened in 1955 in Shijohorikawa and later moved to its current location along the Shirakawa River north of the Chion-in temple. The shop does not use the strongly flavored animal fats normally used in Cantonese food and adds a Kyoto twist to its dishes to create a cuisine that is gentler in taste. Making use of seasonal and rare ingredients from China and Taiwan, the restaurant is engaged in a constant search for new flavors. In addition to a la carte options, the restaurant also serves extravagant yet reasonable course menus. The restaurant’s thick, addictive annin tofu is a popular dessert which is also available for takeout. Closest station: Higashiyama Station.

    A popular Chinese restaurant opened by the proprietor, a Yokohama Chinatown local, who could not forget the flavor of his hometown xiaolongbao dumplings and invited a dim sum master from Shanghai to cook here. The skin of the shop’s piping hot, freshly prepared xiaolongbao is so thin, you can see the soup inside. In addition to offering standards such as Shanghai fried noodles and sweet-and-sour pork, the restaurant also offers a variety of unique items made with Kyoto ingredients. Situated inside a remodeled old miso shop, the unusual restaurant décor blends the essences of a Kyoto townhouse and Chinese restaurant. Closest stations: Shijo-Omiya Station and Nijojo-mae Station.

    お店の前を通る度に行列が出来ているので、期待して行きました。麻婆豆腐、酢豚、担担麺、炒飯を注文しましたが、どれも期待外れでした。麻婆豆腐は四川の本格的な味と評判ですが特別美味しくもなく普通、酢豚は甘酢の味だけでこれも普通、担担麺の胡麻風味も普通、最悪は炒飯で、パラッとしてないベタベタのしょうゆ味です。どこが美味しくて、行列が出来るのか全く分からない不思議なお店でした。
