We tried the omurice, chicken Cutlet, beef hash on rice and the croquette. They were ok. Not bad. But nothing to queue for.

    Kyoto Kyoto-shi Sakyo-ku Shimogamomorimotocho 15
This restaurant offers a full range of orthodox western-style dishes including hamburger steaks, fried shrimp, and beef stew. The restaurant, which makes all of their sauces, dressings, mayonnaise, and breading by hand, puts much time and effort into its many dishes. Each of them has a gentle and nostalgic taste. It is easy to see why the restaurant, which is one of the most popular Western-style restaurants in Kyoto, has so many repeat customers.

    昭和の雰囲気漂う店内は、清潔感があります。 定番メニューをオーダー。期待通りの美味しさでした。常連客もいらっしゃるようで、すぐに満席に。 入ることを諦める方も数組みかけました。かなり人気店のようですね。

This European restaurant opened in 1970 inside of a renovated Iberian-style house originally built in 1929 to house the art collection of the Japanese-style painter Hashimoto Kansetsu. The restaurant's freshly-boiled pasta and its homemade pizza have been beloved since its opening. Guests can enjoy these and other items in the restaurant's open garden, which is surrounded by flowers.

    Kyoto Kyoto-shi Yamashina-ku Takehanatakenokaidocho 43
A western-style restaurant popular for its bubbling beef stew. The potatoes, carrots, onions, and large chunks of meet bubbling about the earthenware pot give the appearance of the name of the shop, Honoo no Ike (Lake of Fire). Their demi-glace sauce is a masterpiece that takes three days to make and is rich with just the right touch of sweetness. They also offer other western staples including gratin, fried shrimp, beef tenderloin steak, and kohlrouladen (white stew stuffed cabbage rolls). The classical wood grain interior of the shop gives a classic western-restaurant feel and you can enjoy all sorts of sauces and dressings with a variety of hand made dishes.

This is Kyoto's first Thai curry specialist, and it offers authentic flavors from Thailand. Located five minutes' walk from Sagano Line Emmachi Station, and stands out for its vivid red noren curtain. The shop's most popular dish is the green curry, made with the shop's original green curry paste developed after long research using green chilis, coconut milk, and more. It has a deep, rich flavor with the perfect level of sourness. In addition to green curry, they also offer red curry and Massaman curry made from red curry with added peanut butter and spices, for a choice of three.

Delicious. We came here a few days ago and ordered the chicken peanut curry (theres three rice options and the smallest of 200g was enough for us)... Our second visit tonight and I told myself Id...

This Italian restaurant is less about choosing a dish from a menu, and more about the day's fresh seafood, seasonal ingredients, and recommended cooking style. The wide, stylish interior is hard to imagine from the stately exterior, and the luxurious wood grain, along with the lack of set menu, help this shop really stand out. The staff offer excellent explanations of the day's food, and customers only need to give their preferences or mood to get the perfect dish. They also have a sommelier-selected wine list to pair with their dishes for a bit of grown-up fun.

This cafe focuses on dishes made with carefully selected natural ingredients. The shop is located in a quiet residential district north on Kitayama-dori street near the Kyoto Botanical Gardens, and strives to make food that results in smiling faces. The chef is particularly proud of the hamburger steak topped with the house-made demiglace sauce. It's made with 100% additive free beef for a thick, tender, hand-made delight. The beef cutlet and beef stew, made with top grade beef from Ishigaki Island, Okinawa, or the Chami pork loin cutlet with select Kagoshima pork, are all very popular.

This dining bar and cafe is in the New Miyako Hotel. RONDE provides a mature experience of the essence of Japan with Kyoto dining. The lunch menu changes monthly and they have a choice buffet and ladies' lunch. It's chic yet with hearty portions, and the reasonable prices keep it popular. Their excellent Ronde Burger comes recommended. Limited to 10 a day, it's made with a 120-gram domestic beef patty.

Kyoto Areas

around-area-map

Its wooden tea houses, shuffling geisha, and spiritual sights have seen Kyoto hailed as the heart of traditional Japan, a world apart from ultramodern Tokyo. Despite being the Japanese capital for over a century, Kyoto escaped destruction during World War II, leaving behind a fascinating history which can be felt at every turn, from the fully gold-plated Kinkakuji Temple down to traditional customs such as geisha performances and tea ceremonies, which are still practiced to this day.
