    The Biwako Terrace is an observation terrace located within the Biwako Valley nature resort, around five minutes' drive from the Shiga Interchange of the Nishi Otsu Bypass (Kosei Road), from which visitors can enjoy superb views of Lake Biwa. The terrace is situated around 10 minutes' walk from the ropeway summit station, on the summit of the 1,174 meter-high Mt. Horai. The terrace features an open, spacious design that makes use of large arches; visitors can enjoy a spectacular panorama, with views of Lake Biwa, the Ibuki Mountains, and even as far as Hira Mountains. Beverages and snacks are available from Cafe 360. Premium seats are available (for an additional charge). The terrace is open between April and October each year.

    快晴の日でしたがロープウェイで標高1100mの山頂につくとモヤがかかっていて、ぼんやりとした景色しか見えませんでした。それでも琵琶湖を一望できる景色は素晴らしかったです。水盤が琵琶湖と一体化するようにデザインされていて美しいです。 レストランとカフェがありましたが土産物店はありませんでした。お土産はロープウェイの下の駅で少しだけ売っていました。

    A one-minute walk from Sakamoto-hieizanguchi Station on the Keihan Electric Railway, and 10 minutes from JR Hieizan-Sakamoto Station. This soba noodle restaurant can be reached by taking a right at the Sakamoto Citizens' Center and then taking the next left. The history of the restaurant stretches back over 300 years; it was established in 1716 by a man who worked in the Enryakuji Temple's kitchen. The restaurant employs a basic noodle recipe of 80% buckwheat flour to 20% wheat flour, but the exact proportions are adjusted daily based on the outside temperature and humidity. Customers can enjoy handmade soba noodle combo meals and other combo meals; as well as Omi musubi soba (assortment of three types of small soba dishes) and other soba and rice dishes a la carte.

    Kosho Shijimi Kamameshi is a country-style restaurant located near the main gate of Ishiyamadera Temple. The signature dish is Clam Kamameshi (similar to risotto), and when diners lift the lid of the pot, the aroma is irresistible. The restaurant uses local Omi rice from Shiga Prefecture, a rich broth, a bit of soy sauce, and shijimi clams from Lake Biwa and cooks them together. Diners can choose from four dinners, and all of them include freshly made Clam Kamameshi and red miso soup with clams, although they all include different side dishes. A large helping of Omi no Obanzai (assorted seafood and vegetables) accompanied by a moderate helping of grebe is especially popular.

These simple yet delicious treats are made with just three ingredients according to the same recipe used since the shop was founded, and have long been popular to give as souvenirs and gifts. In addition to these crackers, the shop offers a wide selection of other products which utilize the unique cultural and culinary features of Omi, including manju buns, monaka wafer cakes, and jams. Unlike most cake shops, the establishment is open from 9 a.m. Using an abundance of ingredients from Shiga Prefecture, the shop sells everything from a sponge cake which can even be eaten by people allergic to eggs; to items which make perfect gifts and souvenirs, like sable cookies decorated with one of 100 classic poems about Omi by 100 poets, and an apple pie selected to be given as a gift to those paying into the local Furusato Nozei hometown tax donation system. The shop also operates a cafe and offers confection making classes, as well as a delightful sweets buffet.

Dedicated to the concept of local production for local consumption, the restaurant makes use of choice ingredients sourced from within the prefecture. One of the restaurant's most distinctive characteristics is its emphasis not just on the cuisine but also on ensuring that the atmosphere of the entire establishment is uniform and harmonious, right down to the tableware and ikebana flower arrangements. Customers can choose between a lunch course and a fusion kaiseki course based on their budget - the latter course is available to parties of two or more people and must be reserved in advance. The restaurant's daggertooth pike conger shabushabu hotpot is only available in summer, while the wild Japanese amberjack shabushabu hotpot is only available in winter. The restaurant also sells its own homemade vinegar and soy sauce. Lastly, the restaurant has a private dining area which can accommodate up to 14 people.

    This Western-style cuisine restaurant is just north off the toll road on the west side of the Lake Biwa Bridge. The restaurant focuses on the use of fresh, seasonal vegetables. The lunch course comes with your choice of main dish, soup, and hors d'oeuvre. The restaurant also happily provides a wide selection of course meals to suit just about any budget. In addition, the restaurant has its own sommelier and boasts an extremely abundant selection of wines. The restaurant's a la carte pain de campagne is staple choice. Lastly, the restaurant can be rented out in its entirety or just half the establishment for events.

    A two-minute walk from Sakamoto-hieizanguchi Station on the Keihan Electric Railway, and 15 minutes from JR Hieizan-Sakamoto Station. This longstanding Japanese confectionary shop was established around a century ago and can be reached by taking a right at the Sakamoto Citizens' Center and then taking the next left. Particularly recommended both to enjoy yourself and to give as souvenirs are the exquisite Hiei no Osaru-san, a monaka wafer cake shaped like the monkeys which are the guardian deities of the Enryakuji Temple, Saikyoji Temple, and Hiyoshi Taisha Shrine; and the famous soba manju buns, which consist of a buckwheat flour dough which goes perfectly with a coarse sweet bean paste filling. The shop also sells special seasonal Japanese confections, and displays confectionary artworks.

Visitors to Shiga prefecture are almost always hopping east across the prefectural border from Kyoto, and they are almost certainly Lake Biwa-bound. Covering an area of 670 square kilometers, Lake Biwa makes up the bulk of Shiga prefecture, with beautiful lakeside paths that offer myriad walking and cycling opportunities, connecting a string of museums, shrines, and picturesque views that finally lead you to Hikone Castle on the eastern side of the lake.
