    This historic building is located in Takashima City, Shiga Prefecture. Built 150 years ago, this old merchant house has been renovated, keeping the weight and appearance of the building by volunteers from the Chamber of Commerce and Industry and maintained as a tourist facility with an experience workshop and food sales. There are eight different parts to the building, with many different stores including tourist information, a cafeteria, a hair salon and a cafe.

The facility holds classes on making ceramics using manual and electric potter’s wheels (reservation required), and casual ceramics painting classes. The facility also offers a class held during a wedding in which the mementos are created for the bride and groom’s parents.

    "A one-minute walk from the Iwanehigashiguchi bus stop on the Community Bus leaving from Mikumo Station on the JR Kusatsu Line. This pottery studio has been in business since around 1750 and is the only pottery studio to have passed down the techniques of Omi Shimoda-yaki pottery in an unbroken line. Designated a Traditional Craft by Shiga Prefecture, Shimoda-yaki is characterized by its simple designs and use of a deep blue hue called ""Gosu."" Newness and novelty resides in the traditional, charming simplicity of Shimoda-yaki, and Shimoda-yaki plates, teacups, bowls, and other tableware is perfect not only for everyday use but also for entertaining guests and for giving as gifts and souvenirs. The studio also offers teacup and plate painting activities and pottery making activities as well. Both types of activities require a reservation made at least two weeks in advance."

    "10 minutes from the Shigaraki Interchange on the Shin-Meishin Expressway via National Route 307. This pottery studio was independently established by Kenzo Ogawa, who is the second son of a third-generation potter and who creates traditional kaiseki course meal tableware and tableware for everyday use which capitalizes on the simplicity of clay. The studio's vast grounds also encompass a gallery and guesthouse. Visitors can also take a pottery class and use the same clay and glazes the professionals use while receiving instruction and support from the artist himself. The studio's gallery is designed around the concepts of ""looking, touching, and experiencing,"" and, if you happen to encounter a piece you particularly like, you can also purchase it."

    A five-minute walk from JR Omi-Imazu Station, and a 30-minute drive from the Kinomoto Interchange. This shop, located a short distance north of the Takashima City Hall Annex on Prefectural Route 291, sells handmade traditional Japanese candles. With an advance reservation, visitors can also tour the shop's workshop. The longstanding shop was established in 1914. The official purveyor of Japanese candles to the Daihonzan Eiheiji temple, the shop's candles are made utilizing choice materials and techniques passed down from generation to generation. The shop sells a variety of Japanese candles created for beauty or long-lasting light, as well as related items and products.

Situated next to ""Cafe P.act"" in the No.18 Building, the shop sells glassware and also has a workshop and classroom and offers a variety of glass making activities, including blown glass, glass beans, and stained glass. The establishment is particularly popular with groups of young women."

Visitors can watch ham and sausages being made in the factory view a glass window. The company is not only highly selective about the pork it uses, but even the feed given to its livestock, and customers rave that its products are rich and meaty in flavor and have superb texture. Customers can also enjoy light meals such as frankfurters, bacon skewers, and Ibuki sandwiches made with bacon on-site.

Visitors to Shiga prefecture are almost always hopping east across the prefectural border from Kyoto, and they are almost certainly Lake Biwa-bound.
