This 203-meter high observatory is located in the southern part of the Shima Peninsula. It is situated on the ria coastline of Ago Bay. There are about 60 small islands in the bay, and the observatory gives you a commanding view of their beauty. It offers three decks that give you a view in all directions of the Shima area. Halfway up Yokoyama to the observatory is the Sozo-no-Mori Yokoyama rest house. There is a promenade leading to the observatory that takes 30 minutes. The area is also famous as a cherry blossom viewing spot, with the “Yokoyama Sakura Festival” held in the early spring.

Unexpected stop from Ise. Id say its good if you have a car otherwise probably not worth it. We came on a rainy day and the parking lot at the top was free. This way you dont have to walk up from...

An observatory located midway along the Pearl Road following the coastline. Located on top of 162 meter tall Mt. Hakoda, visitors can enjoy an impressive panorama encompassing the Chita Peninsula and Cape Daio. On clear days Mt. Fuji is also visible. The observatory also has a café and restaurant selected as offering one of the 30 best views in all Japan. There’s also a shop selling local specialty products and a light meal corner where visitors can enjoy popular Ouchiyama soft serve ice cream.

When we told the staff at our hotel that we were going to be driving along the Pearl Road, they mentioned stopping here. Im glad they did as otherwise, since its a bit of a turnoff from the main...

This view point is located at the summit of Mt. Asama, partway along the Ise-Shima Skyline, at an altitude of 500 meters. The famous panoramic view extends to the Pacific Ocean with a spectacular view of the sunrise, skyline and mountain ranges, and on a clear day, Mt. Fuji is also viewable. There is also an official postbox located at Ise-Shima's highest point, which serves as a gathering place for lovers. • Kirigaki Observatory (Tomoyama Park)

    Mie Pref. Shimashi Daiouchounakiri 2199
This observation deck is located an approximately 55-minute drive from Ise Nishi Interchange via Ise Road, in Tomoyama Park on the east side of Ago Bay. The view of Ago Bay dyed by the sunset is beautiful, making this enchanting place one of the best spots to visit in Ise Shima. Many professional and amateur photographers visit from both within the prefecture and from far afield. The views of the sky at dusk and the sunset are well-recommended, as is the later opportunity to view the stars. Once the sun goes down, visitors who stay a little longer will see the starry sky appear above them. The observation deck is accessible by car, so people who can't walk far can also enjoy it.
  • Cape Isobue Observatory
    Travel / Tourism
    Mie Pref. Shimashi Hamajimachounambari
This observatory on the Cape Isobue in Hamashima Town, Shima City, Mie Prefecture is the perfect spot to take in an unbroken view of the majestic Pacific Ocean. There is tragic love story about this spot that tells how an ama (female diver) went into the sea and never returned, and when her lover who was a fisherman came to this area he could hear the sound of her sea whistle. During the ama fishing season, one can hear the sound of the real sea whistles reverberating in the air. It is believed that ringing the “Tsubasu Bell” placed on top of the observatory will bring in success and fortune just like Tsubasu (the young Japanese amberjack) that grow larger.

From the observation deck, visitors have a clear view of Gokasho Bay with its distinctive curve. There is also a humorous statue that has its butt sticking out, looking out to sea on the observation deck, making it a popular spot for photographs. There is a promenade that leads around the area, where visitors can enjoy not only the view of the sea but also the seasonal flowers such as gardenia and Yoshino Cherry blossoms and the mountain views.

The first observatory coming from the direction of Ise, it is the best place to take in the area's nightscape on the Iseshima Skyline. The observatory's square is a level down from the adjoining parking area and, with nothing to obstruct the view of visitors, people rave that you can enjoy a sweeping, panoramic night view that is one of the best in the entire Tokai region. As the Iseshima Skyline is not open all night and there are specific operating hours, be sure to check in advance.

Mie Areas

around-area-map

Spread across the eastern side of the Kii Peninsula, Mie prefecture boasts hundreds of kilometers of pretty coastline comprising the oyster-rich Toba city and Shima National Park all the way down to Kumano, a city that marks the beginning of part of the Kumano Kodo pilgrimage, which runs into neighboring Wakayama prefecture. However, Mie is best known for the Ise Jingu Shinto shrine inland, one of the oldest and largest shrines in the country.
