This flower garden is located in the Ise Onsen Golf Club which is a five-minutedrive from HisaiInterchange on the Ise Expressway. As the first flower garden in Japan to incorporate horticultural welfare, it combines aspects of environment and welfare. From early February to late March, 500 plum trees of 45 types carpet the lawn with their red and white petals, and around Golden Week, the 1800 trellises of nine different types of wisteria tree blossom with their large clusters of flowers. The low rolling hills of the garden make it the largest in Japan, and in June, visitors can take a stroll through the soothing flowery lanscape, which with its 56 different types of 75,000 hydrangea flowers, entertains the eye with endlessly delightful changes of colors.

Records state this ancient Buddhist temple was built on the order of Emperor Kameyama in 1267. Many ancient stone statues of Kshitigarbha (Jizo) stand on the grounds, and the temple's principal object of worship is also a depiction of Kshitigarbha; in turn, it can be inferred that the temple was a center of Kshitigarbha worship in the area. The temple's eleven-faced statue of Avalokitesvara (Kannon), adorned with 11 small heads on top, is believed to have been created in the Heian period. The solemn statue bears an expressive face and visible wood grain and has been designated a National Important Cultural Property. There is also a small garden on the grounds started as a hobby by the chief priest which blooms with the flowers of around 200 varieties of roses.

Mie Areas

around-area-map

Spread across the eastern side of the Kii Peninsula, Mie prefecture boasts hundreds of kilometers of pretty coastline comprising the oyster-rich Toba city and Shima National Park all the way down to Kumano, a city that marks the beginning of part of the Kumano Kodo pilgrimage, which runs into neighboring Wakayama prefecture. However, Mie is best known for the Ise Jingu Shinto shrine inland, one of the oldest and largest shrines in the country.
