  • Matsusaka Cotton Kimono Rental Center
    Life / Living / Hospital
    Mie Matsusaka-shi Hinomachi 589-1
"A 10-minute walk from Matsusaka Station on the JR Kintetsu Yamada Line. It is a facility for touring and trying out hand-weaving of Matsusaka momen (cotton), and is located on the first floor of Matsusaka City Industrial Promotion Center, built on the ruins of the residence of Echigo-ya, a wealthy merchant. Matsusaka momen is product brand proudly offered by Ise vendors, and is characterized by a vibrant striped pattern originally called ""shima-watari"" (imported from abroad) and aizome (indigo dyeing). In the store, they sell fabric, bags, pouches, fans, and other small articles using Matsusaka momen with a deep feeling so you'll love to use it, as well as women's clothing. There is a charge to try your hand at weaving, and since there are limited looms, you must inquire in advance."

Mie Areas

around-area-map

Spread across the eastern side of the Kii Peninsula, Mie prefecture boasts hundreds of kilometers of pretty coastline comprising the oyster-rich Toba city and Shima National Park all the way down to Kumano, a city that marks the beginning of part of the Kumano Kodo pilgrimage, which runs into neighboring Wakayama prefecture. However, Mie is best known for the Ise Jingu Shinto shrine inland, one of the oldest and largest shrines in the country.
