    This udon noodle shop is right near Ujiyamada Station. They serve authentic Ise udon in the warm atmosphere of an old-fashioned store. Located next to Isetoyouke Inari-jinja Shrine, the shop is well-known, having been popular with the locals for many years and visited by celebrities. Their hallmark dish is, of course, Ise udon, with fat, chewy noodles in a rich, sweet and savory sauce. Their meat topped Niku Ise Udon and Tsukimi Ise Udon with a raw egg on top come particularly recommended.

    Okadaya is an Ise udon shop facing Oharai Town and the slightly thick dashi soup stock that is mixed in with the noodles is made every day. The dashi with katsuo (bonito) and niboshi (small boiled and dried fish) makes for an exquisite combination with the thick noodles. This is perfect place to visit after a stroll. It is located approximately seven minutes by car from Ise IC on the Ise Expressway.

    Kiya Shokudo is characteristic for offering Ise udon that comes with their black tare sauce made with a special dashi soup stock and chewy noodles, and is a well-regarded place that serves generous portions of noodles with a nostalgic taste. The homemade tare sauce is slightly thick and goes well with the noodles. It is very popular among the locals so during lunch time it is recommended to get to the shop early. It is approximately 10 minutes on foot from Ujiyamada Station on the Kintetsu Toba Line.

    先週、友人と二人で訪問しました。観光のお客様にも人気のようです。入れ替わりで駐車場が空いたのでタイミング良く、待たずに食事が出来ました。わたしは、この店のカレーうどんが好きで、ライス(小)と注文します。とても、お米が美味しいです。

    Nakamura, a long-established Ise-udon shop founded in 1916, has continued to maintain its own unique tastes ever since it started. The dark brown tsuyu sauce for the somewhat large noodles appears spicy but rather is a masterpiece in which one can really taste the dashi soup stock. The most popular Ise Tamago Udon comes with a soft-boiled egg on the noodles and has a mild flavor that expands throughout the mouth. It is approximately 10 minutes on foot from JR Iseshi Station.

    有名な柔さがあっていました。消化にも良さそうで 滞在してる間二度訪れました。東京にもあってほしいお店です

    Yamaguchiya is a well-known udon restaurant offering the famous soft and super thick Ise Udon noodles in a rich broth. It is a long-established udon shop that continues to make the much loved udon, unchanged since it was founded in the early Showa period. The flour used for making these superb homemade noodles comes from the ayahikari wheat from Mie Prefecture. Every morning the flour is kneaded to create enough noodles for the day and then slowly boiled for an hour until they are done. The secret sauce is made with Niboshi (dried sardines), dried mackerel or dried bonito shavings, tamari soy sauce, and brown sugar to create a delicately sweet sauce that goes perfectly with the noodles. Their most popular bowl of noodles is the “gocha ise udon” with plenty of ingredients. The nearest station is Iseshi Station.

    伊勢市駅から店まで人もいないし店も開いてないのでこの店もすいていると思って店内に入ったら中は満員でびっくり。伊勢うどんと地ビールを注文。汁の色を見ると非常に味が濃そうなのですが、実際は非常にあっさりした味。でもここがミシュランプレートのお店っていうのがよくわかりません。個人的には1度体験すればいいかなというお味。

    A well-known store offering Ise’s famous Ise Udon, fukusuke is marked by is distinctive onigawara roof tiles. This udon shop made a name for itself during the Edo period and is found in the Okage Yokocho area near Inner Ise Shrine in Ise, Mie. Their thick white noodles have a springy mouthfeel that blends well with the sauce they make from deep flavored tamari soy sauce and broth made from natural kelp and dried bonito. Relax on the benches outside the shop with your meal and feel what it must have been like for travelers during the Edo period.

    This veteran udon noodle shop is a five-minute walk from the north exit of Kintetsu Iseshi Station on the Kintetsu side. They feature the Ise comfort food known as Ise udon, with thick, soft udon noodles in a rich broth. The broth is prepared from dashi base from two kinds of flaked bonito blended with local Mieman Shoyu Nishimura Shoten's tamari and rich awase-joyu soy sauce. Their noodles are made in-house with Ayahikari wheat flour produced in Mie Prefecture. They have a variety of toppings like tempura, and lots of other dishes too, including soba noodles and zosui rice porridge. Other food is prepared with the same cookware as the buckwheat soba, so those with allergies should let them know beforehand.

    This shop specializing in the local favorite Ise udon noodles is on Okage Yokocho near Naiku, the Inner Ise Shrine. It's so popular there's often a line waiting for them to open. The soft, thick udon noodles are served in an Ise-made tamari soy sauce broth. The deep color of the soy sauce stands out, but the flavor is mellow and it's a delight to eat. They serve six dishes and everything on the menu is popular. Their Mehibi Udon with thick wakame seaweed also comes recommended.

They've been making the local favorite Ise udon with the traditional flavor in the more than 50 years since they opened, pairing a large portion of udon noodles with a tamari soy sauce broth. Their chilled Tempura Zaru Udon is available in the summertime, and their Kaki-no-Tama Tojinabe Udon oyster hot pot is available from October to March.     伊勢うどんという言葉は知っていましたがどんなものか知らず、有名店ということで伊勢市駅近くのホテルから歩いて行きました。こぢんまりとした地域密着型のお店。最初に出てきたときはシンプルさと真っ黒な出汁に驚きましたが、もちもち感があり香りもよくてすっかり気に入りました。初めてなので他との比較はわかりませんが、伊勢に来たら一度は食べるべき。

Spread across the eastern side of the Kii Peninsula, Mie prefecture boasts hundreds of kilometers of pretty coastline comprising the oyster-rich Toba city and Shima National Park all the way down to Kumano, a city that marks the beginning of part of the Kumano Kodo pilgrimage, which runs into neighboring Wakayama prefecture.
