This ninja museum in Iga Ueno Castle's Ueno Park boasts the best ninja collection in the world. Composed of the Ninja House, Ninja Experience Hall, and Ninja Tradition Hall, they showcase real ninjas with a concept of bringing ninjutsu into the present. The Ninja House itself was built by a local Iga clan, and under the guidance of a kunoichi (female ninja), you can check out its contrivances like trap doors, escape routes, and revolving walls. The Azura ninja group's breathtaking shows and the shuriken throwing program are also popular. So is the shop selling ninja related items.

This museum opened in 2014. To reach it, take a bus for five minutes from the west entrance of Kintetsu, JR, and Ise Railway's Tsu Station and get off at the Sogo Bunka Center Mae stop. It's right there. The museum is designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of the prefecture. Its main exhibition room depicts Mie's characteristic natural environment around the perimeter of the room, and in the middle presents a comprehensive overview of its people, physical items, and history of cultural exchange. You can also see a fully reconstructed ancient elephant known as the Mie Elephant, consisting of the oldest fossils to be discovered in Mie prefecture. In the back yard there's a reproduction of the Torii Kofun burial mound's stone hut.

The exhibits are centered on Shinto rituals, history and culture related to the princesses serving at Ise Jingu Shrine. The research results of the townscape at the time based on over 30-year excavation survey of the site are also on display. "In this museum, you can learn about the distinctive features and history of the area's traditional danjiri festival floats. The museum displays three danjiri floats used in the Ueno Tenjin Festival, an autumn festival held in Iga City's Ueno district which has been added to the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage list. Three 300-inch screens in the museum display videos of the festival, enabling visitors to experience a realistic atmosphere and the noise of the festival through high definition imagery. The museum also has an area recreating the festival's ""Procession of Demons,"" a highly unusual event unlike almost anything else in Japan, and no matter what time of year it is, you can enjoy the spirit of the festival. There's also an area where you can try on ninja garb, and a shop selling local souvenirs and specialty products from the former castle town area of Ueno, Iga City."

Located a five-minute walk from Kawaramachi Station on the Kintetsu Nagoya Line, Banko no Sato Hall is a venue for displaying and selling Mie Prefecture's best-known pottery, Bankoyaki. In addition to galleries that explain the history of Bankoyaki and the techniques used in producing it, there is also a shop where visitors can select from a wide array of Bankoyaki pottery, as one would expect in the area of the style's origin. The studio on the first floor offers instruction, everything from a one-day pottery making experience to a full-fledged regular pottery course. Visitors can also try painting pottery to create a souvenir that is uniquely their own. On the second floor is a restaurant, Nijiirodo, where a chef prepares daily lunch specials. Reservations are recommended, since quantities are limited.

"This porcelain shop has been in business since the Edo period. The shop displays a collection of porcelain and Nishiki-e prints dating to between the end of the Edo period and the early Meiji period. The establishment is one of the ""Ise Street Corner Museums"" - small facilities run by born and bred Ise natives which introduce the living and breathing culture of Ise. There is an old 64-meter-long trolley rail running from the entrance of the shop to the back which was once used to haul merchandise, hinting at the prosperity once enjoyed by Ise City's Kawasaki district, which was known as the ""pantry of Ise."" In the shop's storehouse in the back (entry fee required), you can view Edo period porcelain as well as a variety of antiques and curios which convey what life was once like here."

Inside the Matsusaka Merchant Museum which opened up as a museum in the former residence of Seizaemon Ozu, there is a man-ryo-bako (literally, a box to store 10,000 ryo) rather than the sen-ryo-bako (literally, a box to store 1,000 ryo) and gives one a sense of the influence of the wealthy Ise merchants who had a shop in Edo.

Spread across the eastern side of the Kii Peninsula, Mie prefecture boasts hundreds of kilometers of pretty coastline comprising the oyster-rich Toba city and Shima National Park all the way down to Kumano, a city that marks the beginning of part of the Kumano Kodo pilgrimage, which runs into neighboring Wakayama prefecture. However, Mie is best known for the Ise Jingu Shinto shrine inland, one of the oldest and largest shrines in the country.
