This eel restaurant is located on the 10th floor of the South Building of Matsuzakaya department store in Naka Ward, Nagoya City, Aichi Prefecture. The main location which registered the trademark for the “hitsumabushi” eel dish, has been around since 1873. They use specially selected high-quality eel and grill each one carefully over Kishu Bincho charcoal with their secret sauce that has been passed down over the years. The first bowl is usually eaten as-is; the second with spices; the third with tea poured over it; and the fourth however one pleases. The “unagi kaiseki” (eel banquet) is great for special gatherings.

Good food, nice restaurant, middle of the shopping area sakae. There is afternoon break, so please check when you wanna go.

A long standing restaurant dedicated to miso katsu cutlets, a Nagoya specialty. Since Yabaton was founded in 1947, it has continued to use only select ingredients and the same favorite recipes. Yabaton uses high quality pork with a focus on pork from southern Kyushu. The restaurant’s secret miso sauce is carefully prepared with soybean miso naturally fermented for a year and a half. Yabaton also takes care to keep the frying oil from getting too heavy and causing upset stomachs. In addition to eating in, the restaurant also sells popular take-home bento box lunches and tenderloin cutlet sandwiches. Yabaton also sells merchandise featuring the restaurant’s mascot, Bu-chan.

It is a chain and there are several restaurants in Nagoya; they propose few options with fried pork (tonkatsu) with their special miso sauce. The combo is great! I recommend the fillet and also the...

The famous dish at Sekai-no-Yamachan is Maboroshi-no-Tebasaki, chicken wings with a taste that has not changed since its founding, and one of the popular aspects of this store is that all of the courses require three hours. Guests can relax and savor their dishes that come with a reasonable price and are very filling. The Miso Kushi Katsu and Miso Uzura (quail) Tamago Fry on the grand menu are also popular and many repeaters come back for them. It is approximately 10 minutes from Sakaemachi Station on the underground Meijo Line.

Great fun family style restaurant. Economic prices and food full of flavor. They are famous for their chicken wings. These are a must try. Drinks were also good value. They become busy at dinnertime.

Ibasho serves one of Nagoya’s famous specialties: Hitsumabushi, a dish of chopped kabayaki (slow grilled with a special sauce) eel on rice said to go all the way back to the Taisho period (1912–1926). At Ibasho, when 2 or more customers order the Hitsumabushi it comes out in one big “hitsu” dish, which is apparently the traditional way of serving it. In addition to Hitsumabushi they have other kabayaki eel dishes including rice bowls, and whole long eels. It’s located about five minutes’ walk from subway Higashiyama Line Sakae Station.

Super traditional, super good and it doesn’t kill your wallet. I highly recommend this place. Nagoya is know for their “shitsumabushi”. This is the place to have it. If you’re in the area this...

Ramuchi, located in the first below ground floor of Sakae ST building about three minutes’ walk from Sakae Station, is a specialty black pork restaurant and famous for misokatsu (cutlets with sauce based on soybean paste), which is a well-known Nagoya specialty. Loin cutlets from succulent Mikawa pork are deep-fried with thin flour to make them crispy and go well with miso sauce from Hacchomiso, which takes more than eight hours to prepare. Plenty of spring onions that almost completely cover the cutlets have a crispy texture and refreshing aftertaste. The super-sized fried prawns and hot pot with Japanese pork are also popular. The restaurant has a stylish atmosphere with jazz music, and women-only groups can feel free to go in.

Aichi Areas

around-area-map

Aichi is a prefecture of great natural beauty with Nagoya city at its heart, a busy hub home to a labyrinth of underground shops and the 17th-century Nagoya Castle. Castles are easy to find in this history-rich prefecture, but the highlight for history buffs has to be the Museum Meiji-mura, where preserved buildings from the turn of the 20th century are displayed in all their grandeur in an outdoor museum.
