    Shizuoka Hamamatsu-shi Chuo-ku
This gallery is located inside Zaza City Hamamatsu, a shopping mall a five-minute walk from Hamamatsu Station. The museum's standing exhibition consists of works by Takuji Yamada, a modeler and sculptor born in Hamamatsu City, Shizuoka Prefecture. Yamada is one of the top figures in the Japanese world of professional modelers, and his works primarily depict familiar and nostalgic scenes from Japan's Showa period (1926-1989) via scale models. In addition to his trademark Showa scenes, around 45 of the 240 pieces which make up the museum's standing exhibition depict kaiju (giant monster), anime, and military scenes. Yamada's pieces are made with great attention to even the finest details and are extremely elaborate, and visitors rave that time will fly by as you take in every little nook and cranny depicted. The museum also distributes official pamphlets and sells original merchandise.

Shizuoka Areas

around-area-map

With the giant Pacific Ocean to the south and the great Mount Fuji to the north, Shizuoka prefecture is blessed with some of the best views the country has to offer. The white sand beaches of the Izu Peninsula are a rare find on mainland Japan, neighbored by beautiful cliffs, tumbling hills, and natural hot springs. As Japan’s largest producer of green tea, the age-old tradition of tea drinking is ubiquitous in Shizuoka, from the miles of tea fields to the old tea houses hosting traditional tea ceremonies.
