    Shizuoka Hamamatsu-shi Chuo-ku Motohamacho 166
"This art museum, a 10-minute drive from Hamamatsu Station, can be identified by its blue sign. Opened in 1989, the museum displays a collection assembled across two generations between Soun Hirano and his son, Ken; men who loved art so much, they've taken up the brush themselves. The core of the museum's over 2,000-piece collection consists of paintings spanning Buddhist images from the Kamakura period to Nihonga Japanese paintings from the modern day. The museum has no standing exhibition space and, as such, the contents on display changes with each new exhibition. The museum's expansive collection covers everything from Western paintings to modern art, and is known to locals as the ""art museum in the middle of town."""

Shizuoka Areas

around-area-map

With the giant Pacific Ocean to the south and the great Mount Fuji to the north, Shizuoka prefecture is blessed with some of the best views the country has to offer. The white sand beaches of the Izu Peninsula are a rare find on mainland Japan, neighbored by beautiful cliffs, tumbling hills, and natural hot springs. As Japan’s largest producer of green tea, the age-old tradition of tea drinking is ubiquitous in Shizuoka, from the miles of tea fields to the old tea houses hosting traditional tea ceremonies.
