    Shizuoka Pref. Kamogunmatsuzakichou Matsuzaki 250-1
This is a free rest area located in Shizuoka Prefecture’s Kamo County, Matsuzaki Town. With a combined store and residence built in 1910 and two storehouses, the exterior’s splendid plaster work and Namako-kabe walls (walls covered with square tiles jointed with raised plaster) are worth seeing. It was originally a dry-goods store, but was donated to the town to revitalize the community and opened to the public after repair work was completed. Inside the area that was once the reception as well as dirt floors still remain, and nostalgic furnishings and implements can be seen. In the adjacent park is a foot bath with a roof.

    明治に建てられた呉服店の建物が無料の休憩所として解放されています。なまこ壁通りにあり、こちらの建物にもなまこ壁が残っています。横にある小さな公園には足湯もあり、散策の途中で立ち寄るのに良い施設です。

It used to be the residence of Dr. Murayama Gyomaro who became close to Yoshida Shoin when he visited Rendaiji to heal his skin disease. However, it is called by its current name as Shoin hid there for several days when he planned to go overseas by boarding a kurofune (an American black ship). Visiting is possible for a fee.

Shizuoka prefecture Kamo gun Higashi Izu-machi Therma Ongawa hot spring
Oyukake Benzaiten is a statue of the goddess Benzaiten, located around two minutes’ walk from Izu-Atagawa Station. Benzaiten came to be worshipped here because many years ago Benzaiten appeared to the owner of the land where the statue is located in a dream and told him to dig in a certain place; on digging there, he discovered a hot spring. It is said that if you splash hot water from the spring on the statue while making a wish, your wish will come true.

    Shizuoka Shimoda-shi 1
This group of buildings is located about a 15-minute walk from Izukyu-Shimoda Station on the Izu Kyuko Line. It consists of the many homes with namako walls that dot urban Shimoda City. Namako walls, which are characterized by white lattices on a black background, are comprised of tiles fixed in place with plaster on top of bamboo lathing covered with layers of clay. The walls have excellent fire and moisture resistance and have been used on many storehouses and homes since the Edo period. The Sichuan Home, which was built some 200 years ago, is one of the most famous examples of a home with namako walls in Shimoda.

    Shizuoka Kamo-gun Kawazucho Yugano
"This literary monument is located about a 14-minute bus ride from Kawazu Station on the Izu Kyuko Line on the Tokai Bus to Shuzenji Station and about a five-minute walk from the Yugano bus stop. It was created to commemorate the region being the setting of Kawabata Yasunari's novel ""The Dancing Girl of Izu."" The monument is installed in the garden of the Fukudaya inn, which was depicted in the novel. Kawabata even attended the unveiling ceremony in 1965. A literary festival celebrating the novel, the Izu no Odoriko Bungakusai, is held every November. During the festival, local youths dressed as the dancing girl and the student lay flowers at the monument. Fukudaya also opens its literary resource room to the public for free during the festival."

Shizuoka Areas

around-area-map

With the giant Pacific Ocean to the south and the great Mount Fuji to the north, Shizuoka prefecture is blessed with some of the best views the country has to offer. The white sand beaches of the Izu Peninsula are a rare find on mainland Japan, neighbored by beautiful cliffs, tumbling hills, and natural hot springs. As Japan’s largest producer of green tea, the age-old tradition of tea drinking is ubiquitous in Shizuoka, from the miles of tea fields to the old tea houses hosting traditional tea ceremonies.
