This is an Italian restaurant on the coast around a 10-minute walk from Kawazu Station, in an old remodeled warehouse said to have been around for more than 150 years. Inside is a mature atmosphere, with thick beams and chandeliers hanging from the ceiling. Here one can enjoy unique regional Italian cuisine using the best of local ingredients including locally-sourced vegetables and seasonal fish, Izu beef, Amagi fowl, and spiny lobster unloaded at Kawazu Port. Both lunch and dinner require reservations (the latter two days before).

Very cosy interior, small so probably good to book. Decent Italian food if you need a break from Japanese cuisine. Very friendly

Salute is an Italian restaurant located in Matsuzaki Town, Kamo County, Shizuoka Prefecture. It is easily recognizable with an Italian flag prominently displayed outside. Using local ingredients such as vegetables harvested early in the morning, seafood from Suruga Bay and fresh water from Amagi, the restaurant offers a complete range of handmade dishes from homemade spaghetti to pizzas and sauce. Their most popular dish is the peperoncino spaghetti with turbo and seasonal vegetables. You can also try various dishes that make use of the delicious flavor of the ingredients, such as spaghetti with the Izu specialty alfonsino, and tagliata with Shorthorn Wagyu. Accompanied pets are welcome on the terrace. It’s a lovely restaurant where you can enjoy a relaxing meal while looking out over the rural landscape and spring cherry blossom.

So, sometimes, even in Japan, I just have to have a pizza and a beer. This place did not disappoint! After a full day of walking and doing all the tourist things, and even eating Japanese foods all...

Shizuoka Areas

around-area-map

With the giant Pacific Ocean to the south and the great Mount Fuji to the north, Shizuoka prefecture is blessed with some of the best views the country has to offer. The white sand beaches of the Izu Peninsula are a rare find on mainland Japan, neighbored by beautiful cliffs, tumbling hills, and natural hot springs. As Japan’s largest producer of green tea, the age-old tradition of tea drinking is ubiquitous in Shizuoka, from the miles of tea fields to the old tea houses hosting traditional tea ceremonies.
