Shizuoka Pref. Shizuokashi Shimizu-ku Yui Nishikurasawa
This mountain pass in Shimizu Ward, Shizuoka City is located in foothills that jut out into Suruga Bay. It connects Yui-shuku and Okitsu-shuku, the 16th and 17th stations of the 53 stations of the Tokaido Road. The Tokaido Main Line, National Route 1, and the Tomei Expressway overlap at the base of the pass with Mt. Fuji in the background, making the pass a popular spot for taking pictures. Although steep and narrow, there is a promenade lined with mandarin orange orchards that connects Okitsu Station and Yui Station.

Shizuoka Areas

around-area-map

With the giant Pacific Ocean to the south and the great Mount Fuji to the north, Shizuoka prefecture is blessed with some of the best views the country has to offer. The white sand beaches of the Izu Peninsula are a rare find on mainland Japan, neighbored by beautiful cliffs, tumbling hills, and natural hot springs. As Japan’s largest producer of green tea, the age-old tradition of tea drinking is ubiquitous in Shizuoka, from the miles of tea fields to the old tea houses hosting traditional tea ceremonies.
