A Shinto shrine located in the Omiya Town, Mishima City, Shizuoka Prefecture famous as the place where the great shogun Minamoto no Yoritomo prayed for victory before raising his army. Dedicated to good fortune and happiness, the shrine is seen as being of particular benefit to persons involved in commerce, industry, and fishing, and the shrine grounds bustle constantly with worshipers praying for prosperity in business or an abundant harvest. The shrine’s grounds contain numerous points of note, including the “Koshikake-ishi,” a pair of chair-like stones connected to the history of Minamoto no Yoritomo and his wife Hojo Masako, a stone monument engraved with a haiku by master poet Matsuo Basho, and a 1,200 year old fragrant olive tree which is a nationally designated Natural Monument. Historical artifacts are displayed in the shrine’s treasure hall, such as a gold and silver lacquered box, a designated National Treasure, presented to the shrine by Hojo Masako. In addition to being a famous cherry blossom viewing spot, the shrine also welcomes great throngs of sightseers during the Mishima Summer Festival held from August 15 to 17.

The castle in Hamamatsu City, Shizuoka Prefecture where the stone walls, the castle gate and castle tower keep have been restored. There's a lot to learn inside the grounds with pictures and models on display as well as a viewing platform on the top level. Surrounding the castle is Hamamatsu Castle Park, a popular meeting spot not just for tourists but for the locals as well.

it used to be very beautiful place but the city made a change to attract tourists and put massive ugly signs or allowed a starbucks to run in the property , all of which has destroyed serenity it had.

This museum is attached to the JASDF Hamamatsu Air Base and is a part of the JASDF's public relations outreach. Known by the nickname Airpark there is a museum and hangar with JSDF materials on display as well as a 360-degree theater where you can feel like a pilot. Their hold events always draw a crowd.

One of the best places in Hamamatsu to bring small children, and interesting for adults too. Best of all... its free entertainment!

This is a museum built on a hill which overlooks Sagami Bay in Atami, Shizuoka Prefecture. From the main lobby with one sweep of the eye, you can see Hatsushima and Izu Oshima islands floating in the sea, and the large 180-degree panorama soothes the souls of the people who see it. It holds approximately 3,500 fine works of art with a focus on Japanese art including three National Treasures and 65 Important Cultural Properties. The museum reopened in February, 2017 after undergoing renovations. It is located five minutes by car from JR Atami Station.

A National Historic Site located in Izunokuni City, Shizuoka Prefecture. In the closing days of the Tokugawa shogunate government, Japan was exposed to the threat of ships from Europe and America. This reverberatory furnace was created in order to build cannons to repel that threat. Completed in 1857, the Nirayama Reverberatory Furnace still stands today. The only reverberatory furnace in Japan today, it is also a registered World Heritage site. Built of fire-resistant fire brick, the furnace, including the body and chimney together, is 15.7 meters tall. Visitors can view the furnace with the payment of a small entrance fee. The furnace’s 20 minute free guided tours are also popular (advance reservation recommended).

A gold mine which once boasted the second highest output in the nation from the Edo to the Showa periods located in the Toi area of Izu City, Shizuoka Prefecture. The mine was turned into a tourism facility in 1972 after its closure, and today it is open to the general public. The mine contains a 350 meter stretch of tunnel which recreates a mining scene from the Edo period. Visitors can also view a giant, 250 kilogram chunk of gold which is registered in the Guinness Book of World Records, try panning for gold, enjoy a meal at the mine’s restaurant, or go shopping in the souvenir shop. The most popular souvenir sold in the shop is the Kinpaku Castella, castella sponge cake sprinkled with gold leaf.

Located in the sightseeing spot of Shizuoka Prefecture’s Atami City, this was constructed as a villa in 1919 and is a famous residence that was declared one of Atami’s Top Three Villas. It was used as a ryokan (Japanese inn) during the Showa period (mid-1920s to late 1980s), and as a famous lodge in Atami it was loved by various literary masters and celebrities including Naoya Shiga, Junichiro Tanizaki, and Osamu Dazai. It is a refined residence with a Japanese-style main building, a western-style structure that combines the beauty of the East and the West, and a chisenkaiyu-shiki garden (a style of garden that features a path around a pond), and it was opened to the public as an Atami City Designated Tangible Cultural Property.

In general, Atami gets a lot of bad press for nothing to see (apart from the Sex Museum). Kiunkaku, however, is definitely worth checking out. The original two buildings date from the Taisho Period...

A Shinto shrine located in Atami City, Shizuoka Prefecture with a rich history. The location where famous shogun Minamoto no Yoritomo and Hojo Masako met and wed, the shrine is revered for providing aid in love and marriage. Visitors can enjoy a sweeping view of Atami and the blue ocean beyond from the shrine’s grounds. The main shrine is located up the mountain beyond the back of the inner sanctuary and can be reached by walking for approximately one hour along a mountain trail which passes by a worship space, Hakusan jinja Shrine, and Musubumyojin-honsha Shrine. Soto-jinja Shrine, dedicated to a hot spring god, is located at the bottom of an 800 step set of stairs leading away from the inner sanctuary. During the shrine’s festival held from April 14 to 15, many visitors come to watch a portable mikoshi shrine parade around the local area.

Shizuoka Sengen-jinja Shrine in Aoi Ward, Shizuoka City, is the collective name for three separate shrines, Kanbe-jinja Shrine, Sengen-jinja Shrine, and Otoshimioya-jinja Shrine. Main events are the February setsubun festival, a Shinto ritual which drives out evil spirits, which has been designated an Intangible Folk Cultural Properties of Shizuoka City, and the huge Hatsukaesai festival held in April. The shrine was known to be the local shrine of Tokugawa Ieyasu and draws lots of tourists.

A museum located a 10 minute walk from Izu-Kogen Station designed around the concept of a “teddy bear house.” The museum features numerous displays, including “Teddy Girl,” an early teddy bear produced by the German Steiff firm which is also listed in the Guinness Book of World Records, rare antique bears, and works by teddy bear makers from around the world. The brick exhibition hall is modeled after an English country home. There’s also a courtyard filled with cute bears and a tea room with comfortable terrace seating, giving visitors the chance to enjoy a truly fairy tale-like atmosphere.

This temple is a part of the Koyasan Shingon Sect temples and its primary object of worship is Shokannon or Avalokitesvara?. The temple was established by Gyoki in 725 AD with the ascension of Emperor Shomu and the current main-hall was rebuilt in 1983. Kannon is known to ward off evil and the temple is famous for their warding dumplings. This is a park around a three-minute walk from JR Mishima Station, on a site run by Mishima City and originally used as a villa for Prince Komatsu Akihito that was built in 1890. Surrounded by rich forest the park is home to 160 varieties of trees and plants and, depending on the season, 30 species of birds as well. The garden surrounding Ohama Pond is designated as a Natural Monument of Japan and a Place of Scenic Beauty. It is a popular park for families, with its Norimono Hiroba area featuring a merry-go-round and miniature train, and the Dobutsu Hiroba (“Animal Area”) where one can enjoy petting small creatures. This shrine in Shuchi County, Shizuoka Prefecture enshrines Shinto deities such as Onamuchi no Mikoto, also known by the name Daikoku-sama.
