"Approximately a nine-minute walk from the Hakoneotome exit of Gotemba Station on the JR Gotemba Line, or approximately a three-minute drive toward Lake Yamanaka from the first exit of the Gotemba Interchange on the Tomei Expressway. The long-established Japanese confectionery store Toraya is directly managed at the foot of Mt. Fuji, where its main factory is located. Seasonal yokan (a bar of sweetened and jellied bean paste), ""Shiki no Fuji"", which expresses the beauty of Mt. Fuji in each of the four seasons, is a limited-sale item only available at the Gotemba store. They are sold in different varieties in spring, summer, fall, and winter. At the Toraya Karyo, a tea shop adjacent to Toraya, visitors can enjoy sweet treats unique to the area, such as ""ammitsu"" (dessert including agar jelly, boiled peas, canned fruits, and red bean paste) made with Mikuriya sencha green tea from the Gotemba area."

    Shizuoka Shizuoka-shi Aoi-ku Miroku 2-5-24
This well-established sweets cafe began in 1804. In the cafe interior, which is much like a teahouse, they provide Shizuoka's famous Abekawa mochi and karami mochi, which you eat with wasabi soy sauce. They are particular about handmaking the Abekawa mochi, like in the past, and using bean paste and roasted soybean flour for a traditional taste. It is best eaten when just made and still fluffy, but it is available for take-out as well.

This Japanese sweet café is located on the opposite bank of the Katsura River that flows in front of the gate of the ancient Shuzenji Temple in Izu City, Shizuoka Prefecture. It is a popular café where customers can look out over the river to the temple and the hot spring town and take a break before or after praying at the temple or from their walk. It serves a variety of sweets that provide a welcome break such as mochi rice cakes made from the local speciality, black rice, a nicely sweet cream anmitsu (bean, agar and syrup confection), a matcha green tea set and, in the winter, warm oshiruko (mochi rice cakes in sweet red bean soup). There is an ashiyu footbath outside for customers to use – a way to relieve your fatigue free of charge.

Chaan Fuyo is a tea house situated next to the grave of Minamoto no Noriyori on top of a small hill in Shuzenji, Izu City, Shizuoka Prefecture. Time passes by quietly and serenely inside this old Japanese house. Here you can sip carefully selected matcha green tea and enjoy sweets while gazing out over the ever changing gardens. Their signature dish is the rice-flour dumplings with azuki beans and matcha ice-cream. The texture of the handmade dumplings is to die for. Their green tea complete with a selection of freshly made sweets which differ each month is also particularly good. When the weather is nice and sunny you can enjoy tea outside on the garden benches.

A Japanese-style sweets cafe in Nakamise Shopping Street near Atami Station, you’ll recognize this place by its brown bricks. The Japanese-modern style and relaxing music lends the interior a calm, mature ambience. It is known for its “kogane mochi” (gold rice cakes), which is served at traditional Japanese inns. Soft rice is combined with sweet bean paste to create a sticky sweet. There’s also shredded kuzu cake with black syrup, red bean soup, and other goods that offer a refreshing sweetness. They also sell souvenirs you can take home.

"This teahouse was recreated at the eastern entrance modeled on the ""Fukuroi Dejaya no Zu"" drawn by Hiroshige of the first generation. Since it is the 27th counting from either the east or west, it holds ""right-in-the-middle movements"" and is a symbol of Fukuroijuku. The manor filled with warmth is adored by many people as a resting place for citizens or for travelers. In the tea house, local people treat you with the hospitality of tea and a sweet, so many people visit to have a rest while strolling through Fukuroi or walking along the Tokaido Highway."

Shizuoka Areas

around-area-map

With the giant Pacific Ocean to the south and the great Mount Fuji to the north, Shizuoka prefecture is blessed with some of the best views the country has to offer. The white sand beaches of the Izu Peninsula are a rare find on mainland Japan, neighbored by beautiful cliffs, tumbling hills, and natural hot springs. As Japan’s largest producer of green tea, the age-old tradition of tea drinking is ubiquitous in Shizuoka, from the miles of tea fields to the old tea houses hosting traditional tea ceremonies.
