This workshop was authorized by Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry as Business innovation which utilizes unique and ingenious pottery kiln method to create original works of pottery inspired by Izu's famous products and scenery. These include their Izu-Shirahama ware (which depicts Izu's famous Shirahama beach), Izu no Sakura to Na no Hana ware (which depicts Izu's famous cherry blossoms and rape blossoms), and Amagi Wasabi ware (which depicts the wasabi grown around Izu's Mt. Amagi). The workshop and its facilities were built by the staff themselves, leaving as many trees standing as possible in order to leverage the natural landscape of Izu Kogen.     This coffee shop founded in 1966 in Shimoda City, Shizuoka Prefecture, is run from a charmingly old, wooden, private house with Namako (sea cucumber) wall effect. The ceiling of the shop has a unique port town style to it like the inside of an upturned boat. All sorts of old regalia like curios, pottery and things picked up on foreign travels are packed into the shop making it the kind of place where you just might discover a gem or two.     Coffee House Coffee-Kan at 1-chome, Shimoda City is a well-established café which opened in 1973. Coffee brewed using an old-fashioned siphon is the fruit of skillful technique. Harris’ Dream, coffee with homeishu (medicated liquor) with the image of Mr. Harris, the first U.S. consul general, as well as the food such as Omuraisu (rice wrapped with a thin omelette) with tomato sauce and the cake of the day is high quality.

    We went here for an after dinner coffee and dessert. The latte was carefully crafted and the banana pudding was delicious. The cafe has a unique atmosphere and the owner was very friendly.
