This is a museum built on a hill which overlooks Sagami Bay in Atami, Shizuoka Prefecture. From the main lobby with one sweep of the eye, you can see Hatsushima and Izu Oshima islands floating in the sea, and the large 180-degree panorama soothes the souls of the people who see it. It holds approximately 3,500 fine works of art with a focus on Japanese art including three National Treasures and 65 Important Cultural Properties. The museum reopened in February, 2017 after undergoing renovations. It is located five minutes by car from JR Atami Station.

This art museum in Suruga Ward, Shizuoka City contains works from local Shizuoka artists including modern sculptures, ukiyo-e wood block prints, and Nihonga paintings as well as both eastern and western landscape paintings from the 17th century onwards. The Rodin Wing has many works of art by master Rodin, including his famous piece, The Thinker. Their permanent collection includes not just works of art but a wide variety of exhibitions including excavated historical relics. They also hold workshops giving you the chance to create your own works of art.

This art museum in Aoi Ward, Shizuoka City is an urban art museum that does not focus on any particular genre of art and throughout the year hold many special exhibitions and events. Along with appreciating the pieces of art there is a cafe and a multi-purpose room almost the same size as the gallery. It is used for all variety of events. On rainy days you can get to the museum from Shizuoka Station without needing to get wet.

I was surprised to see this directly across from the train station, but what was better they had an exhibit that was outstanding, though a visiting exhibit, if this is their quality, then check it...

Located in a perfect location overlooking the sea is this stained glass museum in Kawana, Ito City, Shizuoka Prefecture. With a church and chapel contained within, there is precious stained glass from the 19th century given by the UK to be found throughout the building. The museum is a glorious space in which the soul is soothed by the rays of sunshine pouring through the stained glass windows, the soft light of the lamps and by the scent of the incense. Unexpected moments can be enjoyed while listening to the sounds of the music box and pipe organ. On site is an Italian restaurant run by chef Yukio Ishizaki and also a wedding venue.

This museum which displays modern glass works and kaleidoscopes gathered from around the world is located in the Ugusu district of Shizuoka Prefecture’s Kamo County, Nishiizu Town, a production area for silica, the raw material in glass. In addition to their regular exhibits, they also hold original exhibitions based on the theme of glass. In their experience workshop, visitors can enjoy making unique glass products such as sand-blasted items and stained glass. There is also a shop where guests can purchase glass products such as Nishi Izu’s Kamo Furin handmade wind chimes and works by local artists.

泊まった宿のすぐ近くにあり、行く予定はなかったけど、気になり訪れてみました。素敵な作品があったり、体験などあり、とても楽しかったです。食事も美味しかったです。

Jewelpia is a museum focusing on ivory carvings and natural jewels, located in Ito City, Shizuoka Prefecture. The importing of ivory is currently prohibited under the Washington Convention. The museum is known to be a valuable art museum throughout the world. The museum houses about 270 exhibits all of which are national treasures, including about 120 ivory carvings from China, a jade sculpture, folding screens studded with jewels, and art works from Asia. Another must-see in the museum is the world’s largest natural folding screen inlaid with more than 1,500 precious stones. There is also an area where visitors can have a go at making their own bracelets and gel candles.

Housed in this museum are the Modern Art collection of Uehara Shoji, the honorary chairman of Taisho Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd., and the Buddhism Art collection of both of his parents, Shokichi and Koeda. "This art museum has a unique exterior, seeming to look like mossy-covered rock, which serves as a landmark. On display are sculptures and paintings by Seiko Sawada, a sculptor who received designation as an Honorary Citizen of Atami and the Order of Culture Merit. Having studied under Zuiun Yamamoto, the top pupil of Koun Takamura, Mr. Sawada continued creating works in a wide range of artistic fields, including wood sculptures, paintings, pottery, and printings, until he passed at the age of 93. Teeming with powerful vivacity, his works are well regarded as communicating at lot of romance when seen. Displayed in several ancient Egyptian exhibits and highly praised for its size and material value, the ""Egyptian coffin: top lid"" is said the finest item is Mr. Sawada's collection."

熱海梅園の梅まつりに行った時に、梅園内にある記念美術館に入りました。澤田政廣氏のことはあまりしらなかったのですが、仏像彫刻をはじめとする木像などの彫刻は迫力があり、彫刻の下絵も展示されていたのも面白いと思いました。入口にはステンドグラスかあり、記念館の周囲にもブロンズ像がいくつか展示してありました。

Kakegawa Ninomaru Museum is just a one-minute walk from the Kitamon bus stop and a 10-minute drive from the Kakegawa Interchange. It is an art museum located in Kakegawa Castle Park, and its prime exhibits are the Kinoshita Collection of craft items, especially those related to smoking, and the Suzuki Collection of late 19th century and early 20th century paintings in the Japanese style. Many works of local artists are displayed and stored here. Every effort has been made to allow visitors to enjoy the exhibits to the greatest extent possible. The Japanese-style paintings are displayed with consideration given to the proper order, and the craft items can be viewed with magnifying glasses or double mirrors, allowing visitors can see the details. The museum also holds a variety of special exhibitions.

The Nosaka Automata Museum is an art museum located in Yawatano, Ito City, Shizuoka Prefecture, which stores and displays antique ‘automata’ dolls that can move by mechanical means. Automata produced by European watch makers in the 18th and 19th centuries are works of art that use one spring as its driving force without using any electrical power.
