It’s located as you reach Enakyo Gorge, about a five-minute drive from Ena Station. It’s bordered by the Agikawa River and strolling on the tree-lined boardwalk will give you a chance to view seasonal flowers. You may even catch sight of a kamoshika, or Japanese serow. The park is dotted with shops and restaurants, including Mikuriya, a cafe that offers Japanese confections made with chestnuts, and Mori-no-Shokutaku, an Italian restaurant. There is a cafe terrace as well, where you can enjoy a delicious, relaxed meal in the midst of nature.

You can recognize this ceramic shop on Oribe Street by its retro building that used to be a merchant's house. The shop mainly deals in Mino-yaki pottery, a tradition that dates back to the Heian period. They stock the work of many studios and artisans with an abundance of unique color schemes and patterns. They also sell pottery from the “Heuge Jyussaku Extreme Potters Group, a spin-off project based on a popular manga cartoon. The main branch of a café and Western confectionary shop which also has locations overseas situated a five minute drive from the Tajimi Interchange. The owner, who worked in Paris, aims to create new sweets based on classic French confections while respecting the traditions of the past. The shop’s display case is filled with row upon row of different confections, and the selection is so abundant you’ll have difficulty choosing. Particularly recommended is the shop’s specialty “Visitandine,” a small cake made with almonds and browned butter which has even been praised by Parisian confectionary chefs. The shop also offers many seasonal items such as gateau chocolate and shaved ice. The shop’s Nishio matcha and yuzu cake, limited to just three customers a day, is also a must-taste.

This veteran Japanese confectionery has been making sweets with a nod to the seasons in Nakatsugawa since 1864. Their confections with domestic chestnut are especially famous, and their chestnut and mashed sweet potato kurikinton sold from autumn to winter is recommended. Carefully cooked chestnuts are added to the chunky sweet potatoes along with sugar, and then squeezed through a tea cloth. This leaves its natural pale-yellow color and the rich aroma of chestnuts that people love. Year-round sellers are also popular, including their “Ureshi-no-Kuri, made with large chestnuts prepared their own special way that maintains their fragrance and flavor.

"A long standing Japanese confectionary shop located a three-minute walk from the Yaotsu Town Hall. The shop continues to make confections according to secret recipes never taken off the premises and handed down parent to child. The shop's specialty kuri kinton is a popular and simple gem with a mildly sweet sugar taste and rich chestnut flavor. Because they are made with fresh picked chestnuts, they are a seasonal item only offered from late August through early April. The shop also carries an abundant variety of products offered year round, like ""Kuritamadare"" kuri kinton wrapped in gyuhi, and ""Kurimu Daifuku"" candied chopped chestnut kuri kinton mixed with fresh cream."

This bakery is located a two-minute walk from Minosakamoto Station. It makes bread using homemade natural yeast in a small log cabin. The bread using Hoshino natural yeast is a popular item packed with the uniqueness of the store. It is recommended to eat it simply while enjoying the fragrant scent. There are many products that you cannot find anywhere else such as panettone with yogurt yeast or bread with strawberry yeast.

"It wasn't a chestnut farmer who started making chestnut confectionery, it was a chestnut confectioner who started the farm to grow and study chestnuts. They continue to make ""Kurikinton,"" a traditional confectionery from Nakatsugawa that uses only sugar and no preservatives or flavoring. Shichifuku's ""Nakatsugawa Sweet Chestnut Paste"" boasts chestnut grains of impressive quality. There are three to four fresh chestnuts used for one serving of Sweet Chestnut Paste, and it has a distinct prominent taste that comes from the condensed deliciousness of the chestnuts. They are sold for a limited time from September to around February of the following year. The ""Butter Dorayaki"" which uses coarse red bean paste from Hokkaido Tokachi red beans and slightly salty whipped buttercream is also popular."

Love the water chest but dessert. One of the best! Tried the puff and most popular crystal dessert. You wont be disappointed. Staff very friendly and warm.

"This souvenir shop is located almost in the center of the Nakasendo Highway post town Magome-juku. It handles a wide variety of Kiso handicrafts and specialty confectionery. The shop's recommendation is the handmade folk craft ""Harugoma."" or toy horse which has been made since ancient times in Magome. It is a lucky charm in the form of the Kiso horse and made with straw, that's famed for its simple loveliness. Seasonal sweet chestnut paste, local fruit rice crackers, and skewered sweet rice cakes served with soy sauce and miso are sold here as well. Another popular item is the large sake cup ""Guinomi"" that is made from Japanese cypress grown in a harsh environment, and takes twice as long to grow compared to the common cypress."
