A large park along the Hida River. The roughly 70,000-square-meter site has a variety of facilities like a soccer field, a tennis court, a ground golf course, and a bike path. It's also one of the best places in the city for flowers with cherries, tulips, and more blooming in season. They rent bikes and tennis gear, and there's lots of playground equipment like slides and benches. It gets busy with families on the weekends.

A park at the upstream of the Atanodani River. It's close to Gero Onsen, one of Japan's top three hot spring towns. The park's name comes from a folk song by the poet Ujo Noguchi who visited the area in the early Showa period. The Atanodani River flows from the mountains around Gero Onsen right through downtown. The promenade along the river is great for a walk after your bath while taking in the natural surroundings. You can swim in the river in summer to add another layer of fun to your time in the hot spring town.

"The park is a nature park selected as one of the ""Treasures of Gifu,"" a pride of Gifu Prefecture, where you can experience the magnificent nature such as alpine flora, alpine wetlands, primeval beech forests and valleys around Amou Pass, which is closed to snow for half of the year. The park offers a wide variety of routes, from a 40-minute one-way route to the marshlands where Mizubashou and Nikkoukisuge bloom to a 3-hour one-way route to the summit of Mount Mochinan."

Located approximately a 15-minute bus ride from Gero Station, the historic park for Mineichigo site was excavated between 1966 and 1970. Inside the park, there are the remains of pit-dwellings from the Jomon period (14,000-300 BC), and restored pit dwellings from the Yayoi period (300 BC-300 AD). The state of the dwellings when excavated is preserved in the archives, and many people enjoy walking through the park to learn about history and the magnificence of nature. In addition, you can also see precious excavated items from Mineichigo site in the adjoining Gero Furusato Historical Memorial Museum.
  • Gandate Park

    Gifu Pref. Geroshi Osakachouochiai
A public park located close to the Gandate cliff, a Gifu Prefecture-designated Natural Monument. Gandate was formed 54 thousand years ago by an eruption of Mt. Ontake, the lava from the volcano cooling and hardening to naturally form this sheer precipice. There is an observatory in the park from which visitors can view the consecutive pillar-like surface of the cliff wall up close. There’s also a walking path which extends out to Mitsudaki Waterfall, a small waterfall comprised of three falls pouring into a single basin. Go a bit further, and you can enjoy the lush scenery of the Karatani Waterfall and Akaganetoyo Fall.

Gifu Areas

around-area-map

Tucked away in the very center of Japan, Gifu prefecture houses mountains, old towns, and one of Japan’s greatest hot springs, Gero Onsen. A tour of the prefecture’s traditional architecture will take you from the mountain-enveloped wooden streets of Takayama to the mountain village of Shirakawago, where visitors can explore 250-year-old thatched roofed houses known as gassho-zukuri.
