This municipal park is in Gifu City. It's a well-known plum blossom spot with 50 varieties of plum trees including 700 white-blossomed plum trees and 600 red-blossomed plum trees. The best time to see them in bloom is from February to March. It has a large park area and a lawn where children can play. A D51 locomotive was donated to the park in 1974 for viewing and children's education. The Gifu Bairin Plum Festival is held annually on the first weekend in March, with a variety of plum related events.

Nice park during the sakura time, we get there just week before to start sakura. Theres a old train and you can jump in if you want. Good place to do picnic in a sunny day.

A historic old town area nicknamed the salon of Takayama which consists of rows of atmospheric sake shops and merchant houses housed in white-walled storehouses. The area is located a five minute walk from Hida-Furukawa Station on the JR Takayama Main Line. The Setogawa River flows through the area and over 1,000 colorful koi carp swim in its waters, engendering a charming, soothing, and somehow nostalgic atmosphere. Koi food is sold in the area for visitors to purchase and feed to the fish. There are restaurants in the area serving foods like croquettes made with Hida beef. Be sure to take your time and stroll the area while listening to the murmur of the river.

Youll find this lovely historic canal district 5 minutes walk from the train station. You can find 2 sake breweries over here where you can taste and some shops.

There are five exhibit areas: Science of Hot Springs, Cultures of Hot Springs, Welcome to Gero Onsen, The Room of Dr. Onsen, and Omoshiro Challenge! Hot Springs! You can actually check the salinity and pH of a hot spring and learn about the history of Gero Onsen through valuable photos, materials, a diorama, and more. Books on hot springs are also available. They have a foot bath you can walk in, too.

A roadside station near the Takayama Nishi Interchange on the Chubu Jukan Expressway. It has a restaurant that serves delicious local Hida cuisine, a farmer's market with vegetables picked fresh that morning, and an area that offers casual Hida fare. The Ajisai Nanamori restaurant has a popular Hida beef diced steak meal set with carefully selected Hida beef steak cut into bite-size pieces. It lets guests enjoy the inherent savoriness of the meat. Other meals include their classic Japanese barbecue meal set with Hida beef and a Japanese style meal set with Hida beef and miso and onion grilled on a magnolia leaf.

This local sake brewery has a 200-year history. The local favorite Onna Joshu gets its name from Otsuya-no-Kata, the first female lord of the famous Iwamura Castle. They participate in sake competitions and win awards at Gifu Prefecture's Shinshu Kanpyokai (National New Sake Appraising and Deliberating Fair) almost every year. They have free brewery tours where you can see the trolley track that was once used for transporting rice and sake. They also have tastings of their recent brews and hold an event to introduce their new sake to the world on a Sunday and public holiday in February.

Built in 1895, this historic building was used as the town and city hall until 1968. It’s at the southern end of the Preservation Districts for Groups of Traditional Building in Sanmachi, Takayama City. You can look out from Ichinomachi to Sannomachi, and the Nakabashi Bridge that spans the Miyagawa River is right before your eyes. The entire building is made of hinoki cypress, and various parts have sliding glass pane doors, which were rare when it was built. This building was state-of-the-art in those days and still maintains its former features. Now it’s a museum that preserves and displays Takayama City’s administrative materials, information about Takayama City history through panel displays and realia from the period.

Well preserved buildings but it was very crowded when we visited and guides were talking over each other. Bit difficult to see the history, but worth a visit.

Crossing the Miyagawa River from Sakurayama Hachimangu Shrine, this Otani Shinshu Buddhist temple on National Route 158 has an enormous gate at the end of the approach. The temple was founded in 1253 by Shinran’s disciple Kanenbo Zenshun in Hida’s Shirakawa-go, Naka-go. Takayamabetsuin was moved to its present location by the Warring States Period (1467-1615) warlord Kanamori Nagachika. The highlight on the grounds is the temple’s treasure hall with more than 100 important items related to Shinran and Rennyo on display. The fact that it’s near Takayama City’s main tourist area is a good point, too. They have a paid parking lot that can accommodate large buses, and since the fees are reasonable, many people park there before exploring the city.

A Buddhist temple situated at he start of the Higashiyama walking course. A beauty and well maintained. Nice architectural structures.

There is also a display of approximately 300 ceremonial “lion heads” from all over Japan; as the only exhibition of its kind in Japan, this lion-head display has been designated as an Important Tangible Folk Cultural Property.

Amazing exhibition of the floats used during processions which are huge and finely decorated. Well worth a visit

This is the former residence of the Imai family who were wealthy merchants in what today is Mino City. Originally built in the middle of the Edo Period, it was reportedly expanded in the early Meiji Period. As paper merchants and the head of the village, they were extremely wealthy, and the house was the most splendid in the region. The Meiji Period addition included a three-meter skylight. The courtyard has an elegant suikinkutsu, used to make a special dripping sound, and has been designated as one of the Top 100 Soundscapes of Japan. Mino historic museum is at the back. Its Udatsu Kura has displays on udatsu (old roof ridges) and you can learn about Niwaka (an impromptu comic play) in its Niwaka Kura.

Very interesting old residence. Beautiful garden and well kept hidden treasure. Will be back again in the future.
