    The only store dealing in Gujo pongee fabric, a luxurious handwoven silk cloth is made with plant dyes to produce a luster and simple colors. It is woven with top-grade, carefully selected domestic spring cocoons. The more you wear it, the more lustrous it gets, and it can even be worn for three generations. Munehiro Rikizo, who was born in Hachiman-cho, revived the tradition of pongee woven by Gujo farmers for personal use. He employed an innovative technique to create today's Gujo pongee. He's been nationally certified an Important Intangible Cultural Property Technology Holder, a first for an individual dealing with pongee. The store's first floor sells kimono accessories and indigo dyed merchandise, and the second floor displays works by Munehiro Rikizo.

    This variety shop in the Preservation Districts for Groups of Traditional Buildings of Sanmachi has a large bird cage as a landmark. The expansive shop is packed with items depicting living things like animals and birds. Ranging from accessories you might buy on a whim to fancy items for your home, time flies just looking each item over. Their frog figurines in human poses are popular. They also have a gallery and a cafe area in an old warehouse that’s great for a break with some sweets.

    人が並んでいたので食べたのですが、なるほど並ぶだけあって飛騨牛のにぎりは絶品でした。塩と醤油がありますが、塩を選んでみましたが、塩が肉本来の味を引き立てて居ました。

Even customers who just drop in can choose kimono and obi (sashes) on the spot and have shop employees dress them. Kimono go well with the traditional-style ambience of Hida-Takayama. The shop will even store your luggage while you stroll around town unencumbered. Fireworks displays and summer festivals are held nearby, and it is fun to attend them wearing a yukata (an informal cotton kimono).

    This Gujo store sells its own brand of geta, Japanese wooden clogs. Known as “Odori-geta, they're used in Gujo-Hachiman's famous local dance, the Gujo-odori. The store is particular about making them with quality hinoki cypress from the mountains around Gujo. Their clogs are cut whole from single pieces of wood, so they won't break even if you dance the night away on stone pavement. The shop also has a selection of colorful thongs for customizing them as you like, available in a variety of materials ranging from silkscreen prints to antique cloth.

Based on the concept of creating a new sense in everyday life by re-proposing a piece of dignified inherited Japanese culture that had been lost, they coordinate each and every customer’s encounter with the best kimono that suits them. They also offer rentals in addition to selling them. Most young Japanese people can’t put on kimonos by themselves. But it is free to be dressed the rental yukata by a kitsukeshi (person who helps another person get dressed), and they can be rented until the end of the dancing on the day of the Gujo Odori festival. During the Tetsuya Odori (late night dancing held for four nights during the Gujo Odori festival) period, and their rental hours are extended until midnight.
