    Gifu Pref. Geroshi Mimayano
This theater where local kabuki is performed is located right next to the Mimayano bus stop on the Nohi Bus for Nakatsugawa from the JR Takayama Main Line’s Gero Station. The view from all seats is good because of their terrace-like arrangement on both sides of the passageway. The village plays called “Mimayano no Shibai” that have been loved since the Edo period (1603-1868) were designed important tangible folk cultural properties by Gifu Prefecture together with their original scripts. It has a history going back to the Edo period, with amateur kabuki performances performed with festivals of Hie-jinja Shrine and Kumano-jinja Shrine. The splendid paintings on sliding-door panels created by Meiji (1868-1912) and Taisho (1912-1926) period painters are also a must-see.
