- The Hayataro Onsenkyo village, situated at the foot of the Central Alps, was named after the legend of a dog named Hayataro that was kept by the Kozenji Temple. The waters of the area's simple alkaline hot springs, selected for a list of some of Japan's 100 best, are colorless, odorless, and slippery to the touch. Here visitors will find distinctive hot spring hotels, ryokan inns, government-run lodging houses, and day trip bathhouses; regardless of where you go, you're sure to be able to enjoy a relaxing soak and beautiful, seasonal scenery.
