This large ropeway, able to carry 100 people, is located at the northern tip of the Yatsugatake mountain range and connects Mt. Kita Yokodake and Mt. Shimagare. It takes about seven minutes to reach Yokodake-Tsuboniwa summit station with an altitude of 2237 meters from the station at the base of the mountain with an altitude of 1771 meters. The magnificent view of the mountains seen from the gondola window is spectacular, and is especially popular among mountaineers.

My daughter enjoyed this a lot! It was a great hike for us. It’s worth a trip! The rope way runs like every 20 minutes. We came early so less people and not so crowded. This is good for a family...

Located in Yamanouchi Town, Shimotakai County, Nagano Prefecture, the world's largest aerial tram with a capacity of 166 passengers will bring you to this terrace. The scenery from an altitude of 1,770 meters is amazing, and when the weather is right, a sea of clouds spreads below, like a scene from a fairy tale. The fresh green of spring and splendid autumn leaves are visible according to the season with the panoramic view.

    Nagano Pref. Komaganeshi Akaho
This mountain ropeway in Nagano Prefecture extends from Komagane City to the Central Alps Senjojiki Cirque (the commonly used name for the area directly under Mt. Hoken in the Central Japan Alps). The ropeway is also Japan's highest. One trip takes around seven and a half minutes. From the platform of the ropeway's terminus, Senjojiki Station, visitors can get a sweeping view of the Southern Japan Alps as well as Mt. Fuji.
  • Kurumayama Panorama Lift
    Travel / Tourism
    Nagano Chino-shi Kurumayamakogen
A four-person lift which travels to the top of Mt. Kurumayama, the highest peak of Mt. Kirigamine, which is itself included in the 100 Famous Japanese Mountains list. Reaching the peak 1,925 meters above sea level requires a 15 minute journey and transferring between two lifts which travel a total vertical distance of 350 meters. Unlike a ropeway or cable car, the lift just has a single safety bar keeping you in place, and thus riders can experience the area's spectacular scenery unobstructed while being caressed by highland winds. From the top of the mountain, visitors can take in the Yatsugatake Mountains, the Japan Alps, the Asama Mountain Range, and distant Mt. Fuji. Be aware that there are no toilets at the summit.
  • Maeyama Summer Lift

A lift located 45 minutes from the Shinshu-Nakano Interchange on the Joshin-Etsu Expressway which connects the Hotaru Onsen bus stop and the top of Mt. Maeyama via a five-minute ride. The lift makes it easy to enjoy the view from the top of the mountain; the mountaintop can also be used as the starting point of the Ike Meguri Course, one of the most well-known hiking courses in the Shiga Highlands. It's a five minute walk from the lift to the lovely Shibuike pond via a marsh. Thereafter, the trail continues for an additional 10 kilometers, finally stopping at Onuma Pond, a popular tourist destination due to its sparkling emerald green waters. The lift is closed in winter from mid-November to late May.

Nagano Areas

around-area-map

Nagano prefecture is an exciting mix of mountains, hot spring monkeys, and preserved Edo history. At the heart of the Japanese Alps, Nagano is one of the country’s most popular destinations, whether in winter for its snow sports and the much-loved Jigokudani Monkey Park or in the warmer months for discovering the undulating hills on foot. For fantastic Edo architecture, head to the Kiso Valley for a 60-kilometer stretch of quaint wooden buildings that marked the Nakasendo route 200 years ago.
