    Nagano Saku-shi Uchiyama
Located about 10 minutes by bus from Nakagome Station or about 20 minutes by car from the Saku Minami IC, this valley near Route 254 is a place where visitors can enjoy the magnificent nature with many strange and mysterious rocks such as Hime-Iwa, Napoleon-Iwa, Byobu-Iwa, and Candle-Iwa. The area is also a great place to enjoy the changing scenery of the four seasons, with peach blossoms in early May and cosmos in mid-September.

    奇岩の景勝地として知られていますが、駐車場や中心地がありません。 まあ、山の紅葉と岩肌なのでどこからでも見えるのですが、観光を楽しむとか散策をたのしむとかができるとよいかな。

    Nagano Matsumoto-shi Azumi Shirahone Onsen
"A six-minute walk from the Shirahone Onsen Tourist Information Center. This rock tunnel can be seen on the upper reaches of the river from the suspension bridge past Ryujin Falls. ""Yu"" means ""hot water"" or ""hot spring,"" and as the name of the Yu River implies, its waters contain an abundance of the same minerals found in the hot springs of Shirahone Onsen; this tunnel is presumed to have been carved out of the rock over countless years by the river's swift current. The limestone rock tunnel is six meters tall and 20 meters long. People are not allowed into the tunnel, but visitors can enjoy the stunning natural scenery of the tunnel and its surroundings from close by. Erosion control construction was conducted in 2018 due collapse and flood risks."

    Nagano Matsumoto-shi Shirahone Onsen
A 90-minute bus ride from Shinshimashima Station and a one-hour drive from the Matsumoto Interchange. The Shirahone Onsen hot spring district is located on the northern side of Nagano Prefecture close to the border with Gifu Prefecture and is an excellent place to enjoy fall foliage. The best part is that you can enjoy the sight of mountains dyed orange, green, gold, and red and then enjoy a hot spring bath. In most years, the best time to see the foliage is from early to mid-October; the area's Katsura trees start changing color a little earlier. The scenery around Ryujin Falls and the Yukawa valley is particularly spectacular and these areas are recommended walking destinations.

    Nagano Kamiminochi-gun Shinanomachi Kashiwabara
"A park located a three-minute drive from the Shinanomachi Interchange. Visitors will find a variety of facilities dedicated to the great Japanese poet Kobayashi Issa, including the ingeniously designed Issa Memorial Museum; the Haikaiji Temple, which was built in 1910; and stone monuments inscribed with Issa's poems. The park's rear garden, which leads to the graveyard, has a still and elegant atmosphere and is particularly beautiful in fall when the leaves change color. The park is famous for the Issa Festival held each year on May 5th on the date of Issa's birthday, and the park bustles with people of all ages during this time. In Utagaoka Park, located on the park grounds, visitors can find a monument inscribed with ""Shinano no Kuni,"" the official poem of the prefecture. In addition, the park offers fantastic, sweeping views of Nagano City."

Eleomura Akiyama village in Nagano pref.
“Akiyamago,” spreading from Sakaemura, Shimominochi-gun, Nagano Prefecture to Tsunan in Nakauonuma-gun, Niigata Prefecture, is one of the top one hundred secluded areas in Japan, and is a mountainous region seeped in rich nature. You can enjoy beautiful scenery every season such as cherry blossoms in spring and the area covered in snow in winter, but especially the scenery of changing colors of the autumn leaves is superb.

Nagano Areas

around-area-map

Nagano prefecture is an exciting mix of mountains, hot spring monkeys, and preserved Edo history. At the heart of the Japanese Alps, Nagano is one of the country’s most popular destinations, whether in winter for its snow sports and the much-loved Jigokudani Monkey Park or in the warmer months for discovering the undulating hills on foot. For fantastic Edo architecture, head to the Kiso Valley for a 60-kilometer stretch of quaint wooden buildings that marked the Nakasendo route 200 years ago.
