    チョコレートの店としては珍しく、売り場だけでなくイートインのできるスペースがあり、食べながらチョコレートを作っているところも観られるというサービスがあるのが面白いです。チョコの種類も半端ではなく、見たことも聞いたこともない名前のチョコもあり、こんなに銘柄があったのかと普通に勉強になるので、ただ食べる以上に楽しめるお店だと思います。

The first floor contains the store along with an eating space, and the second floor has a gallery featuring local artists’ works. You’ll find local liquors, oyaki (a type of bun), processed goods made from mountain vegetables and fish from the river, sweets, crafts, and more. You can also enjoy some oyaki and coffee onsite. The “Omachi kara no tamatebako” is especially popular.

They are sold both fresh-baked and frozen so they can be given as gifts. No soba powder is used in the dough, so those with soba allergies can rest easy. The red shop curtain is the shop’s landmark, and the inside contains a cafe space where you can enjoy oyaki and drink sets.

    Shioya Jozo (brewery) has 30 stone troughs lined up that have been there since the Edo period and are used to create miso and soy sauce. 10 buildings on the site, including the store, the main building, the annex, and the soy sauce storehouse have been designated Tangible Cultural Properties. Visitors can tour the miso storehouse as well. The preparation methods have been guarded by successive generations, and combined with the yeast cultivated in the storehouse, the taste produced is exquisite. It’s about a 15-minute walk from Suzaka Station on the Nagano Line.

    “Le Pommier,” a confectionery shop priding itself on using mostly home grown fruit in its sweets, opened in 1999 and since then has been visited by many people. The baked confectionery and cakes made by owner and chef are delicious because of the chef’s skill and the love he puts into his cooking and also the clear weather and climate of extreme hot and cold producing wonderful Saku fruit. It is approximately five minutes by car from Sakudaira IC on the Joshin-etsu Expressway and about a five minute walk from Sakudaira Station.
