This shrine boasts some 1,900 years of history and is also known as the starting point for the Mt. Fuji Yoshida Trail. The shrine flourished in the Edo period as a center for Mt. Fuji worship, and one can still sense the vestiges of this period on the shrine’s extravagant grounds. The goddess of Mt. Fuji, Konohanasakuya-hime, is enshrined here, and it is said she grants easy childbirth and the prevention of fires. The Yoshida Fire Festival, considered one of Japan’s top three unusual festivals, is held here very year on August 26 and 27.

We would strongly recommend having a guide that knows the history if this place, it will only elevate the experience. This is a starting point for the ascent of Mt Fuji and understanding the rituals...

A place where you can learn about weather observation and the history of Mt. Fuji Radar which ended its 35-year-long role atop the peak as a fort for typhoon observation, Mt. Fuji Radar Dome has a theater where you see a documentary of the people who passionately worked to build Mt. Fuji's radar facilities. Also, it is popular as a learning facility where you can experience the cold at Mt. Fuji's peak.

I was looking forward to visiting this weather predictor dome that sat at the top of Mount Fuji and was airlifted to it’s current ground level position when it was made redundant in 1998 as it was...

This is a house where Mt. Fuji’s Oshi (low ranking Shinto priest) priests have worked for generations. Oshi were people who carried out missionary work and prayer for the Mt. Fuji religious faith, looking after the lodgings and meals of Fujiko believers who were making the pilgrimage up Mt. Fuji. This is a presently existing invaluable building which supported the Mt. Fuji faith. The main building which was constructed in 1768 has been designated as an Important Cultural Property of Japan in 2011. It is also a constituent asset of the World Heritage Fuji, and you can see materials such goshinzen room and mountain climbing costumes at the Residence.

Its small but the entrance fee is very cheap. When visited in conjunction with the nearby Kitaguchi-hongu Fuji Sengen Shrine, it gives you an idea of how one starts a pilgrimage to Mt Fuji.
