    Yamanashi Pref. Yamanashishi Yatsubo 1669-18
With Mt. Fuji straight ahead and the Kofu Basin down below, great views can be had while taking a bath in this hot spring. The bath opens one hour before sunrise so opening hours vary depending on the season. The spring water in the Kocchi-no-yu bath is completely colorless and transparent while the freshly poured bath water in the Acchi-no-yu bath is a clear and bright yellowish brown color. The water is said to be good for those who are overly sensitive to the cold, those who have nerve pains, and also aids fatigue recovery. The new water sources make it more difficult to catch a chill after the bath and cause little irritation to the skin so it is good for children or the elderly. As well as hot spring baths, there are souvenir shops, snack bars, restaurants and outdoor viewing terraces on site.

A nice little onsen, hotspring, (went to the higher PH one) with three baths. A nice relaxing soak after two days of walking the mountains of Yamanashi. On a good day you also get a great view of Mt...

This is an elegant mountain which is certainly also a symbol of Japan, which is the highest mountain in Japan at 3,776 meters. Mt. Fuji is also often the theme of artistic inspiration such as Hokusai Katsushika: “Fugaku Sanjurokkei” (Thirty-six Sceneries of Mt. Fuji). Also, Mt. Fuji is also the place where the “Mt. Fuji faith” started and it is revered as a sacred mountain in which a deity resides. In 2013 it was registered with World Cultural Heritage as “Fujisan, sacred place and source of artistic inspiration”. There are four climbing routes including the Yoshida Route, the Subashiri Route, the Gotemba Route and the Fujinomiya Route. Since the opening periods vary depending on which mountain trail you choose, it is necessary to confirm in advance whether your intended route is open.

"This malt whiskey distillery, also known as the ""Forest Distillery"", is located in the foothills of the Southern Alps approximately 20 minutes by car from Kobuchizawa Interchange on the Chuo Expressway. On the grounds is the ""Whiskey Museum"" where visitors can learn about the history of the birth of the single malt whiskey ""Hakushu"", and the worldwide culture of whiskey. There is also a shop that offers goods limited to the distillery, as well as restaurants and bars featuring seasonal dishes made from local produce. There is no charge for admission but reservations (at least one day in advance) are required. A factory tour (including tasting) is also available (fees apply)."

This was a great day out from Tokyo and I would highly recommend it. I used a standard Passmo card for the return journey from Shinjuku to Kobuchizawa. If you turn left when leaving Kobuchizawa...

This is a cave located at the eastern entrance to the “Aokigahara Jukai” (sea of trees) forest, and is one of the sightseeing spots within the Fuji Five Lakes area. In 864 A.D., when Mt. Nagao, a flank volcano of Mt. Fuji erupted, the red hot lava flow descended down between the ancient parasitic volcanoes creating this cave. The average temperature within the cave is as low as three degrees, and it is covered with ice year round. It was designated by the Ministry of Education as a Natural Monument in 1929.

Interesting cave. No ice though in the autumn time though. Kinda like a slippery slide t get down in it. I was on my hands and knees. Pretty good value for money.

This three Michelin star art museum exhibits the kimono of textile artist Itchiku Kubota. Kubota established a unique dyeing technique called ''Itchiku Tsujigahana'' after having been fascinated by the Tsujigahana style of fabric dyeing that flourished in the Muromachi Period before suddenly dying out. The museum displays Takeda's ''Symphony of Light'' series, which features kimono with themes including the four seasons, the ocean, and the universe. It also displays kimono featuring motifs of the many faces shown by Mt. Fuji in different weather conditions.

The ambiance of this little museum is lovely - it’s a perfect way to spend an afternoon strolling through the indoor/outdoor space and the kimono collection is stunning in person. Beautiful little...

This shrine boasts some 1,900 years of history and is also known as the starting point for the Mt. Fuji Yoshida Trail. The shrine flourished in the Edo period as a center for Mt. Fuji worship, and one can still sense the vestiges of this period on the shrine’s extravagant grounds. The goddess of Mt. Fuji, Konohanasakuya-hime, is enshrined here, and it is said she grants easy childbirth and the prevention of fires. The Yoshida Fire Festival, considered one of Japan’s top three unusual festivals, is held here very year on August 26 and 27.

This was a pretty neat shrine. It was much more ornate on the inside than many we have seen. Worth a stop on your trip to visit Mt Fuji.

Moreover, having been designated as one of the new three major night views in Japan and top 100 night views, it’s no wonder the park is hugely popular with night view fans.

This castle park is located in Kofu City, Yamanashi Prefecture. Originally the site of Kofu Castle, built at the end of the 16th century, today parts of the castle ruins are a public park. The area in and around the park features a number of historic sites that help visitors imagine what the castle would have looked like in its heyday. These include Yuki Bridge, the castle quarry, and Inari Yagura Tower. The park has a great team of volunteer tour guides.

Basically just the ruins of castle. While it can be a great view, the steps up are steep and uneven with no handrails.

This day spa is notable for its popular open-air baths with amazing views of Mt. Fuji. Despite their high alkalinity, its baths have a mild feel on the skin. They are also known to help get rid of dirt and deadskin giving bathers beautiful skin. In addition to two types of open-air baths, a lie-down bath, and jet baths, the spa also features dry and wet sauna. The name of the spa, which opens at 6:00 a.m. on weekends and holidays from December to February, originates from the views of a snow-capped Mt. Fuji dyed red by the sunrise that its baths offer.
