  • Mt. Fuji

    This is an elegant mountain which is certainly also a symbol of Japan, which is the highest mountain in Japan at 3,776 meters. Mt. Fuji is also often the theme of artistic inspiration such as Hokusai Katsushika: “Fugaku Sanjurokkei” (Thirty-six Sceneries of Mt. Fuji). Also, Mt. Fuji is also the place where the “Mt. Fuji faith” started and it is revered as a sacred mountain in which a deity resides. In 2013 it was registered with World Cultural Heritage as “Fujisan, sacred place and source of artistic inspiration”. There are four climbing routes including the Yoshida Route, the Subashiri Route, the Gotemba Route and the Fujinomiya Route. Since the opening periods vary depending on which mountain trail you choose, it is necessary to confirm in advance whether your intended route is open.

  • Mt. Minobu

    A 1,153 meter tall mountain located in Minobu-cho, Minamikoma County, Yamanashi Prefecture. There is a ropeway which can take you to the top of the mountain in about seven minutes, and during your ride in the sky you can enjoy fantastic scenery. There are also two trails which visitors can use to hike to the top as well. The mountain is a habit for Japanese macaques, wild boar, Japanese deer, and a variety of other animals, as well as Japanese serow and Japanese dormice, rare species designated as Natural Monuments which you just might catch a glimpse of if you're lucky. Twice a year, visitors can enjoy the sight of the sun perfectly capping the top of the mountain in a phenomenon popularly known as the “Diamond Fuji,” and the mountain is also a popular spiritual destination.

    This 2,230 meter-tall mountain in Hokuto City, Yamanashi Prefecture has been designated as one of Japan's 100 best mountains. It is notable for the rocky climbing trails strewn with boulders and for its sheer cliff peak. You can enjoy views of Mt. Fuji, the Minami Alps, Mt. Yatsugatake, and more from the peak. While most of the climbing courses are one-day climbs, there is also a course that leads to the peak from the Mt. Mizugaki mountain villa.

    This 2,057 meter-tall mountain in Tanbayama Village, Kitatsuru County, Yamanashi Prefecture was designed as one of Japan's 100 best mountains. From the ridge, you can see mountains including Mt. Fuji, the Minami Alps, Mt. Norikura, and Mt. Yatsugatake. The long, gently sloping mountain ridge makes it a popular destination for beginning climbers. In the summer, you can enjoy views of the mountain's wild grasses and flowers, while in the autumn you can enjoy views of the fall foliage.
  • Mt. Kayagatake

    This 1,704 meter-tall dormant volcano is also known by the name Nise-Yatsu (false Yatsugatake) due to its resemblance to Mt. Yatsugatake. The mountain is known for being the site of the death of author and mountaineer Kyuya Fukada. The park built at the trailhead in his memory, Kyuya Fukada Park, features a stone monument bearing his words.
  • Mt. Kinpu

    The mountain is often referred to as the leader of the Okuchichibu Mountains. At its peak towers Gojoiwa Rock, which serves as the main shrine of the various shrines that sit at the mountain's trailheads, including Kanazakura-jinja Shrine and Kinbo-jinja Shrine. A number of climbing courses are available, including those well suited for beginning mountaineers.
  • Mt. Kobushigatake

    This 2,475 meter-tall mountain is located at the shared border of the three prefectures of Yamanashi, Saitama, and Nagano. It offers great views everywhere but its eastward side, where the views are obscured by the forest. The mountain and the mountain hut located 200 meters southeast of it, the Kobushigoya, are both beloved by mountaineers. The peak offers views of many of Japan's 100 best mountains, including the Japanese Alps and Mt. Fuji.

    This observatory is located on the ridge of Mt. Ashiwada along the Tokai Nature Trail. It features 360-degree panoramic views of the Aokigahara Sea of Trees , Mt. Fuji, Lake Saiko, Lake Motosuko, and more. The scenery is particularly wondrous and beautiful from late October to mid-November thanks to the autumn foliage.

    This 1,731 meter-tall mount is known as one of Yamanashi's 100 most famous mountains. On clear days, climbers can enjoy a 360 degree view of the three peaks of Mount Ho-o, as well as of Mt. Fuji and Mt. Yatsugatake from the peak. In early summer each year, the entire area is dyed vermilion by the nearly 150,000 Japanese azaleas vermilion that grow between the trailhead and the peak.

    Climbing this 1,660 meter-tall mountain can be enjoyed even by beginner climbers and families. At Karigahara near the peak, you will be treated by unusual sight of snow-white sands. One of the mountain's biggest attractions is enjoying the magnificent scenery provided by Mt. Yatsugatake, Mt. Kurakake, and Mt. Kaikomagatake. Of the two hiking courses, the course from Yatateishi to the peak features relatively gentle slopes.

    This famous 1,529 meter-tall mountain is well known as a scenic spot. From the peak, you can enjoy views of Mt. Akadake, Mt. Fuji, and the mountains of the Minami Alps. In addition to the area just below the peak being accessible by car, there is a hiking course that crosses the base of Mt. Yatsugatake from Utsukushi Forest to Mt. Tennyo, making it easy to casually explore the area around the mountain. The mountain is home to rare alpine plants such as Asian Skunk Cabbage and Japanese primrose, as well as wild Japanese larch which turn beautiful colors each autumn.
  • Fujimi-daira

    A scenic destination situated north along the Yatsugatake Kogen Line heading towards the Kannondaira. In early summer, azaleas bloom in profusion, while in the fall visitors can enjoy views of Japanese pampas grass and golden Japanese larches covering the area. An observatory along the way offers a sweeping view of the Southern Japan Alps and Mt. Fuji. There are tables and benches which visitors can use to rest while taking in the surrounding scenery. Note the road is closed to traffic from November to April.

Yamanashi prefecture is the proud home of one of Japan’s most celebrated icons: Mount Fuji.
