    Home to the Takeningyo Workshop—the only shop in Japan that processes from bamboo splitting to assembly—the Echizen Bamboo Doll Village displays exquisite works made by bamboo artisans in the Takeningyo Display Hall, and offers up many Echizen bamboo puppets and fine bamboo products for sale. They also sell Hokuriku crafts, and popular Fukui souvenirs and local sake.

    A souvenir shop and restaurant in Anto, Mikuni-cho, Sakai City. Here you'll find local Fukui sake and beer as well as famous local sweets, souvenirs, and pickled goods from Umemiya Tatsuo Tukemono Hompo. In the restaurant they serve set meals, seafood rice bowls, and noodle dishes made with local seafood. A specialty of the shop is high quality Junmai Ginjo Sake delivered directly from the brewery and sold by volume.

    A Japanese confectioner in Onsen 4-Chome, Awara City. Their famous Matsu-no-Tsuyu treat, which has been served to the royal family, is made with egg whites, sugar, and ground coffee and resembles the Shoro species of mushroom. Their Kougetsudo custard pudding, made with local egg yolks, is also popular.

They're famous for their Sake-Manjuu treat whose recipe came from a boatman on the Kitamaebune shipping route which crossed the Sea of Japan during the Edo and early Meiji periods. The Sake-Manjuu is still made with the same classic techniques and delivers a harmonious blend of bean paste and the taste of sake. Also popular is their Nama-Dorayaki which comes in a variety of flavors including green tea and cream cheese.

    A Japanese confectioner in Kitahonmachi 4-Chome, Mikun-cho, Sakai City. Their specialty Uguisu-mochi has over 200 years of history and is made with local mochi-rice, red beans, and soybeans as well as a special sugar that was first brought to the Mikuni Minatomachi port area via trading ships. They also sell a variety of other sweets including castella cake and sweets made with homemade red-bean paste.

    蒸し羊羹がとても美味しいです。 お店の方には鴬餅を勧められたので、鴬餅を購入。 小さめなのでペロリです。 お上品な味でした。

Northeast of Kyoto, the ancient Tojinbo Cliffs separate Fukui prefecture from the Sea of Japan in a stretch of land well worth exploring. Water sports and seaside delicacies are available in abundance as the spectacular rugged coastline flattens down into beaches to the west of the prefecture, while inland, Fukui is home to Zen Buddhist temples and historic ruins.
