    At this market complex, you can enjoy seeing, buying, and eating the charms of Wakasa. The complex offers a popular 60-minute boat cruise which enables riders to take in the local dynamic scenery formed by the stormy waters of the Sea of Japan. The Sotomo Cruising boat ride operates from March to November and is offered four times a day to general customers and also runs up to four times a day for private groups (when reservations have been made). The first floor of the complex is a souvenir store carrying famous products from Wakasa. The second floor is a restaurant serving an abundance of seasonal ocean delicacies.

    This shop, which specializes in Wakasa lacquered chopsticks, manufactures and sells Wakasa lacquered chopsticks carefully crafted by artisans as well as hexagonal chopsticks that fit children’s hands. Each beautiful pair is carefully studded with egg or sea shells and painted with dozens of layers of coloured lacquer, but remains easy to use. Personalised chopsticks such as for couples are also available.

Of particular note, this is the only place you can watch a live demonstration of the process involved in making tesuki oboro kombu (handmade shredded kelp), a rare traditional technique dating back 400 years.

The Ono-han Onoya was a trading shop for the Ono Domain that opened during late Edo period and has been registered as a Tangible Cultural Property of Japan. It consists of four buildings, the Yuirakuza general goods store, Nikaigura two level storage building, Hiragura storage building, and the Yokan western building. They sell local agricultural goods and local specialties, hold hands-on classes including how to make handicrafts, and have a multipurpose hall available for rent. In the Yokan western building you'll find the Haikara-chaya teahouse, which offers a menu of dishes made using local ingredients.

Much of the shop floor is taken up by fresh produce that was just harvested the same day. They also sell eggs, fresh flowers, and seafood fresh caught in Echizen and Koshino harbors. You can purchase side dishes made from these ingredients and of course Fukui grown Koshihikari rice as Fukui is known for its clean water. The attached Restaurant Shunsai serves up local flavors.

    永平寺で参拝前に連絡をしておき、参拝した後に立ち寄りました。部屋に案内されて「永平寺そば」をいただきました。「永平寺そば」は「やまかけそば」と「山菜そば」の蕎麦にゴマ豆腐、味噌、デザートも付いています。シンプルな料理ですが、永平寺の雰囲気にふさわしいものです。思わず背筋が伸びるような感じになっていただきました。穏やかな感じの蕎麦でした。ありがたい気持ちになっていただきました。
