    Fukui Oi-gun Takahamacho Sonobe 60 Area
    A swimming beach in Sonobe, Takahama, Oi. Stretching out from Torii Beach, the beach has beautiful white sands and blue waters. On the east side is Wakasa Wada Beach, and nearby you'll find Wakasa Shirahama BBQ Park and Wakasa Wada Camping Ground.

The beach is also famed for its picturesque view of the Tsunegami Peninsula, as well as its gorgeous sunsets, which die the shoreline red. In summer, this popular destination is visited by great numbers of visitors from the Hokuriku and Kansai regions looking to go swimming; the beach is also a renowned marine sports destination and date spot.

    A swimming beach in Koigawa, Obama. The beach is nearly 800-meters long. During beach season, there are courts set up for beach volleyball, and it's one of the grounds for the Fukui Shiawase Genki National Sports Festival. The beach is easy to access just 2 minutes from the Obama-nishi Interchange on the Maizuru Wakasa Expressway.

    This beach blessed with clear waters is mostly used for guests at the nearby guesthouses and children from local elementary schools. Since the beach does not have facilities such as showers, it is mostly only used by locals except for the busiest parts of the summer. Fewer tourists mean you can enjoy swimming at a more leisurely pace. Because the beach is comprised of fine gravel, it’s best to bring beach shoes along with the usual drinks and food.

    This beach popular with families makes up for a relatively narrow width with a rocky area where beachgoers can collect crab and shellfish. A promenade planted with pine trees and Japanese roses makes is a good place for a walk, as well. The beach is in two kilometers long.

The beach conveniently has many beachside teahouses during the open season.

    A beach located along Prefectural Route 33 in Mihama Town, Mikata County. There's an adjacent campsite and many people visit to enjoy camping and barbecuing.
  • Ningyo no Hama (Mermaid Beach)

    A beach located along Kaigan-dori street in Obamashiratori, Obama City. The name of this man-made beach is linked to the legend of Yao-Bikuni who is said to have lived for 800 years after eating the flesh of a mermaid. On August 1st they hold the Wakasa Marinpia Fireworks Show at the beach. Next to the beach is the Mermaid Terrace with two mermaid statues.

    Mizushima, an uninhabited island floating in Tsuruga Bay near the tip of the Tsuruga Peninsula, is known for its crystal-clear waters and beautiful white beaches. During the summer beach season ferries run from Irogahama and Urasoko to Mizushima and the beaches are packed with bathers.

Northeast of Kyoto, the ancient Tojinbo Cliffs separate Fukui prefecture from the Sea of Japan in a stretch of land well worth exploring. Water sports and seaside delicacies are available in abundance as the spectacular rugged coastline flattens down into beaches to the west of the prefecture, while inland, Fukui is home to Zen Buddhist temples and historic ruins.
