The Keta Taisha Shrine is a Shinto shrine located in Jike Town, Hakui City. The Shrine, which is dedicated to the worship of the Shinto deity Okuninushi-no-mikoto, is said to have been built around 2,000 years ago. The sacred grove in which the Inner Shrine is situated is known as the “Forbidden Forest,” and has been designated as a National Natural Monument (note that there is no admission to the Forest).

A lot of shrines have forested areas, but they’re often quite manicured. Keta Shrine was like it was made with the forest in mind. Some parts were downright Ghibli-ish, especially the torii that led...

Myojo-ji Temple in Hakui City, Ishikawa Prefecture is the head temple of the Nichiren school of Buddhism in the Hokuriku region; it is the largest temple in Northern Ishikawa (the region that was formerly known as Noto Province). Ten of the buildings within the temple precincts have been designated as National Important Cultural Properties; unusually, three of these buildings—the Soshi-do hall, Hon-do hall and Sanko-do hall—are laid out in a row, a practice which was unique to the Nichiren school; the Myojo-ji Temple is the only temple in Japan where the buildings arranged in this way have retained their original appearance. The Myojo-ji Temple also has the only five-storeyed pagoda in the Hokuriku region; built on top of a small hill, it has become a famous symbol of the Temple.

This place was very calm and tranquil. A small admission fee, but an excellently maintained temple, a pleasant and quiet walk through took about an hour.

"This zen dojo is said to find its roots in a thatched hut built by the zen monk KeizanJokin over 700 years ago, around the Kamakura period. Later, in 1312, his student Meiho Sotetsu built a hall here, which became Noto's first zen dojo. The hall holds many temple treasures, among them mid-Heian period wooden statues of the standing Shokan Kannon Bodhisattva, the ""horse-necked"" Bato Kannon Bodhisattva, and the 11-Headed Kannon Bodhisattva, all of which are registered National Important Cultural Assets. The KessyoDaihannyakyo sutra, written in the blood of the historical abbot and his students, is registered as a Hakui city cultural asset. The view of Hakui and its natural surroundings from this temple on the side of a mountain is perfect for a moment of soothing contemplation."

    Ishikawa Hakui-gun Hodatsushimizucho Kita-kawashiri Ra 1-1
“Tomurayaku” was a government position created in the Edo period by the samurai Maeda Toshitsune, third lord of Kaga Domain. Placed in charge of 10 villages, the tomurayaku would collect taxes and provide overarching management and supervision of the agricultural community under his authority. This residence belonged to one such tomurayaku, its thatched roof seeming to symbolize the “tip of the brush,” a term which also meant “leader” or “head” in Japanese. The tatami mat rooms of the main building are decorated in a style suiting the station of the tomurayaku. The structure has four entrances, each serving a different purpose – for example, one was for conducting the business of village administration, another for welcoming the lord of the domain. The residence is adjoined by a museum which displays cultural assets and ancient documents concerning Kaga Domain, making it possible for visitors to deepen their understanding of the history of the time.
