Eight different types are available, including Yomogi (mugwort) with Tsubuan (coarse sweet bean paste) and Mitarashi (dumplings covered with sweet soy sauce), Isobe (dumplings wrapped in seaweed) and Kinako (soybean flour) dumplings.     Located in 2 Chome, Yamanakaonsen Town in Kaga City, Shishi no Sato is a direct sales outlet run by the Matsuura Shuzo sake brewery. The “Shishi no Sato” local sake is made using underground spring water from the Io-ji Temple in Yamanakaonsen, a temple that is familiarly known as “O-Yakushi-san.” Besides selling sake, Shishi no Sato also has a sake-tasting area, where visitors can try different sakes before deciding which ones they would like to buy as souvenir gifts or to drink themselves at home.

It is a long-established store, a specialty business with one of the best markets in Japan, that has inherited traditional culture of Kaga clan. On any day, it offers over 300 varieties of sweets, including its own homegrown products. You can even get a glimpse of freshly-made products through glass windows facing the production line. Approximately 20 minutes by car via Katayamatsu Interchange on the Hokuriku Expressway.

    ゴールデンウィーク中でしたが、混み具合はほどほど、大型バスがきたらまた変わるかもしれませんが、見学しながら試食できました。メジャーなほしいお菓子がない場合もありますが、お土産第1弾にはちょうどよいかもと思いました。

    "A long-standing Japanese confectionary shop established in the 1820s located in the Yamashiro Onsen hot spring village. The restaurant's signature item is the ""Roppo-yaki,"" a baked sweet made by hand one at a time. This simple confection has been made for six generations since the establishment first opened. Small square cakes, Roppo-yaki are made with just select, homemade an bean paste, wheat flour, eggs, and honey. Baked a toasty, golden brown, the cakes have a delicately sweet flavor that fills the mouth. Visitors can watch Roppo-yaki being baked from a glass window at the front of the shop. Many customers, entranced by the owner's skillful technique, find themselves being drawn into the shop. The shop does not offer its products wholesale; this shop is the only place you can buy its goods."

    A shop which sells Japanese beef and homemade side dishes standing on the Yuge Kaido road in the Yamanaka Onsen hot spring district. The shop's walls are covered with photographs and signatures of celebrities and politicians. The shop's signature croquettes are pleasantly round. Made by hand one a time each morning at 5:00 a.m., their rough, crisp fried outer crust enwraps a fluffy potato filling. Aiming to provide customers with that hot out of the fryer flavor, the shop only cooks the croquettes to order, ensuring you can enjoy one of these gems piping hot any time. Other items on offer include menchikatsu deep fried minced meat cutlets and takeout yakiton grilled pork skewers. The shop is so popular, lines of waiting customers often form outside the door.

Notable for selling a large number of pieces by renowned artists, around 70 to 80 percent of the shop's pieces were crafted by Living National Treasure-designated craftspeople such as Tokuda Yasokichi III and Minori Yoshita. In addition to exquisite artistic pieces, the shop also carries reasonably priced Japanese tableware perfect for everyday use. The shop's soy sauce bottles and kyusu teapots are particularly popular. More unusual selections include Kutani ware USB memory sticks and colorful lucky skulls. The shop also holds potter's wheel and ceramics painting workshops even beginners will enjoy.
