This popular Japanese-style restaurant, located behind the Kanazawa City Hall, in Kakinokibatake, Kanazawa City, Ishikawa Prefecture, has been featured numerous times on television programs and in travel guides. This restaurant is so popular with the local people and tourists that they line up outside. The restaurant is proud of its generous servings of seafood from the Sea of Japan, sashimi and carefully selected junmai sake, and its Sea of Japan Sashimi Platter, bursting with the flavors of fish freshly caught that same day, is very popular. In the winter, customers can enjoy the restaurant’s yellowtail and crab meals.

"A ryotei traditional Japanese restaurant located right next to the Kanazawa Theatre. Here you can enjoy traditional Kaga cuisine made with fresh, local ingredients. Particularly recommended lunch options include the ""Sekitei Gozen"" meal, which comes with sashimi, a yakimono broiled dish, nimono stewed dish, and tempura; shabushabu hotpot served with a special ponzu citrus sauce and secret recipe sesame sauce; and the ""Nodoguro Ajiwai Zukushi,"" wild Noto blackthroat seaperch served both grilled with salt shioyaki style and stewed Arataki style. The restaurant, decorated in traditional, low-key Japanese style, has sunken kotatsu tatami mat seating as well as table seating, and also makes a perfect venue for banquets, private parties, and celebratory events like weaning ceremonies and auspicious birthday year festivals."

"A tea house standing on the bank of Kasumigaike Pond in the center of the Kenrokuen garden. Comprised of a tea room on the shore and an additional room built out over the pond, the tea house's name, meaning ""Pavilion of the Inner Bridge,"" refers to the bridge connecting these two rooms. The historic tea house building is also known as the ""Namazu-no-tei"" (the Catfish Pavilion), and customers can enjoy matcha powdered green tea, Japanese sweets, or meals like donburi rice bowls or soba noodles while taking in the distinctive scenery of the garden. The tea house also sells souvenirs like accessories made with Kaga Yuzen dyed textiles and Kutani ware brooches."

Ishikawa Areas

around-area-map

Long, thin Ishikawa prefecture runs along the Sea of Japan up into Noto Peninsula. Highlights of the seaside towns lining the west coast include Kanazawa, often described as a "Little Kyoto" thanks to its old wooden tea houses and geisha culture as well as its picturesque Japanese garden, Kenroku-en.
