A shop owned and operated by the Hakuichi gold leaf company. The shop operates out of a remodeled old public bath building in the Higashi Chaya District, a charming area where many old Japanese homes and teahouses stand side by side. Making use of the high ceilings of this former public bath, the shop's open and airy sales space is filled with a variety of gold leaf-decorated crafts. Particularly popular items include the shiny gold leaf cosmetics and oil blotting papers. The shop even has free test products for customers to sample. Many customers are also sure to order a cone of soft serve vanilla ice cream covered with a sheet of ritzy gold leaf.

Gold leaf did not taste like much, but it was an experience that you don’t get all that often! Icecream was simple soft serve, but the eating was part of the adventure!

The shop's name is derived from an actual agency which once governed the use of gold and silver foil. This long-standing gold leaf specialty shop was established in 1898. Facing Saigawa-odori Avenue and located close to the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa and the Kenrokuen garden, the shop sells gold leaf materials and gold leaf crafts and also holds a variety of workshops. The shop’s most popular workshop is its gold leafing activity, which lets you handle real gold leaf just one 10,000th of a millimeter thick. Under the tentative guidance of an instructor, you can make your own gold leaf hand mirror, small bon tray, postcard, or badge, the perfect opportunity to make a memory of your trip to Kanazawa that will last a lifetime. The gold leaf ice cream activity, in which you apply gold leaf to a soft serve ice cream cone, is also popular.

街中あちこちに金箔ソフトクリームはありますが、金箔やさんが出しているだけあってか、近江町市場、駅前よりも少し安い気がします。金箔味は正直分かりませんが、名物なのでとりあえず話のネタに食べてみてもいいかも。

A long-standing lacquerware shop in Hirosaka, Kanazawa, Ishikawa which has operated continuously for eight generations since 1780. The shop carries an abundant variety of items, including traditional Kaga makie gold and silver lacquerware and Kanazawa Shikki lacquerware as well as Yamanaka-nuri and Wajima-nuri lacquerware, Ishikawa Prefecture specialty products. Floors one through three are stocked with items which can be used every day like chopsticks, bowls, and cups, as well as tea ceremony goods and flower vases. A café and sweet shop is situated on the fourth floor, and here you can enjoy a cup of coffee, matcha green tea with a tea cake, or sweet matcha cream zenzai red adzuki bean soup.

This traditional toy store is located in Owari-cho, Kanazawa City, Ishikawa Prefecture. This a long-established store was founded in 1862, originally selling theater props and masks. It began selling Kaga dolls and traditional toys later. The store prides itself on its lovingly-made handmade toys, and with the “Kaga-hachiman okiagari” motif based on Kaga-hachiman tradition, their toys are considered auspicious in the way that they rise up again, no matter how many times they fall. Inside the store is a corner where customers can experience painting Kaga-hachiman okiagari toys themselves. (Charges apply.)

金沢駅から徒歩約18分の距離にあります。今回はひゃくまんさん人形をGetすべく来店。幸いにも店頭に1点在庫があり無事購入することが出来た。お店は昭和を感じさせるレトロな作りではあるが歴史を感じさせる作品が並んでいる。張り子のひゃくまんさんなのでとても軽くお土産の品としては良いかもしれない。

This shop, opened in 2015, sells modern, new traditional crafts created by young artisans connected to Ishikawa Prefecture. The 66 square meter shop is filed with over 300 items. All are welcome, and the shop carries many relatively reasonably priced Kutani ware and Wajima lacquerware pieces perfect for everyday use.

This is a long-established store founded in 1575 selling traditional handicraft “Kaga Fishing Flies” and sewing needles. Lord Kaga named the sharp and easy-to-use needles “Meboso,” and they have been highly regarded from that time. Since the Meiji Era the shop started making fishing flies to catch ayu sweetfish and was awarded a certificate of merit at the “National Industrial Exposition” in 1890. Currently, apart from the traditional Kaga flies and sewing needles, marking pins with cute decorative heads and feather accessories are also popular. If you make a reservation you can experience making feather accessories. The nearest station is Kanazawa Station.

Kaga Temari (yarn balls) is a tradition said to have begun when Lady Tamahime brought them to the Kaga clan when she married into the Tokugawa family in the Edo period. A shop which sells traditional Kanazawa incense and erosoku painted candles. In addition to popular scents like sandalwood and agarwood, the shop also sells a variety of original incense fragrances. In addition, you'll find elegant incenses decorated with another Kanazawa specialty product-gold leaf. The shop's handmade erosoku candles are decorated with colorful Kaga yuzen designs. In the shop's tatami room, you can play a round of kikiko, a traditional game played since the ancient Heian period in which players try to guess the fragrance of the incense being burned. The shop also holds short workshops in which you can make your own kaoribukuro fragrance bag by combining your favorite aromatic woods.

A shop which carries Kutani ware, a traditional form of ceramics from Ishikawa Prefecture. The shop's wooden sign, boldly emblazoned in blue characters with its name, draws the eye. The birth and modern shop interior is filled with colorfully decorated Kutani ware. The majority of the shop's Kutani ware was decorated one at a time, by hand, by artisans currently working in the medium. The shop also sells a wide selection if cute items perfect for everyday use like small serving plates, his and her chawan traditional cups, and tea cups. Much of the shop's selection is quite reasonably priced and the establishment is quickly gaining popularity as a souvenir hunter's destination.
