  • Motoyu Ishiya
    Accommodations / Hot Spring
Ishikawa Pref. Kanazawashi Fukatanimachi Thi 95
A long-standing traditional ryokan inn established in 1789 located in Kanazawa's Fukatani Onsen hot spring district. The charming, old fashioned Japanese architecture of the inn somehow feels comfortable and familiar even to first timers. In addition to private guest rooms, the inn's Tempogura detached guesthouse is a remodeled old two story kura storehouse with white plaster walls. The inn's hot spring bathhouse is available for use by non-guests from 12:00 p.m. to 15:00 p.m. The inn's waters, famous for beautifying the skin, are amber in color and characterized by a smooth texture. Legend has it that the inn's waters healed the wounds of the famous swordsman Miyamoto Musashi. For women, the inn offers a hot spring source pack. For food, the inn serves jibuni duck meat stew and traditional kaiseki course cuisine made with seasonal Kaga vegetables and fresh fish. Once a year, the inn holds a special concert by firelight on the Noh stage in its reception hall.

Ishikawa Areas

Long, thin Ishikawa prefecture runs along the Sea of Japan up into Noto Peninsula. Highlights of the seaside towns lining the west coast include Kanazawa, often described as a "Little Kyoto" thanks to its old wooden tea houses and geisha culture as well as its picturesque Japanese garden, Kenroku-en.
