This is a temple of the Koyasan Shingon sect located in Komatsu City, Ishikawa Prefecture. It is said that it was established by Taicho in 717. The ground of the temple is large and the nature is beautiful like a landscape painting. The temple is known as the enchanted land with unusual rocks and the main shrine is connected to a huge, rocky cave. It is the sacred place of “Iwa-ya Tainai Kuguri” where sins are purified and people are reborn. There are many buildings including the main shrine and the three-storied pagoda which are certified as important cultural assets of the country. It is also known as a famous sightseeing spot of leaves changing color in autumn. There are no railings on the roads or stairs in the premises, so comfortable walking shoes are recommended when visiting the site.

We came here on a beautiful afternoon and was not disappointed with the temple and its surroundings. The map tht comes along with the admission fee is very useful to cover the full ground from...

"A Soto Buddhist temple built in 1651 after the chief retainer of Kaga Domain asked the domain's lord to do so. Widely known as a temple which grants wishes, the temple is popularly visited by worshippers from around the country. The way to pray for your wish is unique-wearing a cord tied to a sign with your wish on it around your shoulder, you must circle a path called the ""Road of Happiness"" encircling statues depicting arhats and the 12 signs of the Chinese zodiac three times counter-clockwise. Some of the temple's many other highlights include the ""Kofuku Jizo,"" a statue of Kshitigarbha which grants people's prayers for children and healthy child growth; a white statue of the deity Fudo which grands beautiful skin; and a Daruma statue which grants improved luck."

Myojo-ji Temple in Hakui City, Ishikawa Prefecture is the head temple of the Nichiren school of Buddhism in the Hokuriku region; it is the largest temple in Northern Ishikawa (the region that was formerly known as Noto Province). Ten of the buildings within the temple precincts have been designated as National Important Cultural Properties; unusually, three of these buildings—the Soshi-do hall, Hon-do hall and Sanko-do hall—are laid out in a row, a practice which was unique to the Nichiren school; the Myojo-ji Temple is the only temple in Japan where the buildings arranged in this way have retained their original appearance. The Myojo-ji Temple also has the only five-storeyed pagoda in the Hokuriku region; built on top of a small hill, it has become a famous symbol of the Temple.

This place was very calm and tranquil. A small admission fee, but an excellently maintained temple, a pleasant and quiet walk through took about an hour.

The Myoryu-ji Temple is a Nichiren Buddhist temple in Kanazawa City, Ishikawa Prefecture. The Temple was founded by Maeda Toshitsune, the third lord of the Kaga Domain. Its complex defensive architecture, including many features designed to confuse attackers, led to it being nicknamed the “Ninja Temple.” The Temple interior is full of ingenious features such as offertory boxes and steps that hide pitfalls, hidden rooms, etc. What appears from the outside to be a two-storey building actually has four stories, with a total of 23 rooms. Tours can be booked in advance by telephone; it may be possible to book a place for the same day if there are any places vacant on that day’s tour.

"A Buddhist temple located a 20 minute drive from JR Kanazawa Station. Founded by Maeda Toshitsune, the third lord of Kaga Domain, in 1623, the temple is also known as the ""Tamahime Temple,"" a name derived from the posthumous Buddhist name of Toshitsune's wife, who died an early death. Each year, the temple exhibits paper hina dolls handmade by Tamahime, holds a festival which celebrates Tamahime and prays for the success of parishioners in this life, and holds a memorial service for Tamahime. In a corner of the main temple, mechanical dolls reenact the story of Tamahime over a 15 minute period several times each day. The temple also shows a video on the dolls."

"Once a shelter used to store portable shrines for events, the structure was rebuilt as this Shinto shrine in 2015 due to the deterioration of the old building. An ""ubuya"" is a room in which women give birth. The shrine is derived from an event held in August in which a god and goddess are wed, build an ""ubuya,"" and give birth to a child god. There is a large log pillar in the center of the shrine and inscribed at its base are the 12 signs of the Chinese zodiac. It is said that your wish will be granted if you stand on your own sign, circle the pillar clockwise, and pray at the altar."

The northeast side of Komatsu City has produced large quantities of stone and the area is dotted with several old stone quarries. This Buddhist cave temple was opened in 1951 and makes use of one such former stone mine. Here, visitors can view a huge number of Buddhist statues. The cavern is 150 meters long. The temple is not dedicated to any specific Buddhist sect and all are welcome to visit.

This Buddhist temple is counted as one of Japan’s three greatest Marici (Buddhist goddess of war) temples, alongside the Tokudaiji Temple in Tokyo and the Zenkyoan Temple, a sub-temple of the Kennin-ji Temple, in Kyoto. The temple enshrines a statue of Marici which was used as a protective charm by the samurai general Maeda Toshiie, the first lord of Kaga Domain. Standing at the midpoint of Mt. Mukaiyama in what would be the unlucky “kimon” northeast of Kanazawa Castle, the temple was built by Kaga Domain’s chief vassal Toda Shigemasa on the order of Maeda Toshinaga, the second lord of the domain. The grounds offer a sweeping view of the homes along the Asano River as well as the Higashi Chaya District. The five pine trees standing on the temple grounds served as material for a novel written by Kanazawa-born author Kyoka Izumi. The temple is also famous for its sunsets, and even Japanese literature researcher Donald Keen once praised the scenery visible from the site.

The temple, which venerates an early Heian period statue of the Amitabha Kannon, and is number 14 on the Kanazawa Kannon pilgrimage. Connected to the shore by a bridge, the temple is also known by its nickname, the ""Ukiuki Benten"" (""Floating Benten Temple""). Legend has it that when a huge serpent was laying waste to the lakes of Katayamazu, Bhaisajyaguru sent the goddess Benten to suppress it, and in connection with this story, the temple is dedicated to the dragon king and Benten. A large fountain system has been built out on the lack behind the temple; the fountain, along with the bridge and temple, are lit up at night, creating a magical atmosphere."

An ancient Buddhist temple which records state was founded in 1593. Originally built in Echizen (now Fukui Prefecture), the temple was later moved to Kanazawa, then Toyama, and Kodatsunodai, before finally being relocated to its current grounds in 1615. The temple’s huge cherry tree, popularly known as the Ozakura, is a 400-year-old Shogetsu cherry. According to legend, the samurai Maeda Toshitsune, third lord of Kaga Domain, and his friend, the temple’s high priest, received the seedling from Komatsu Castle and planted it here on the grounds. A local landmark, the tree is six meters in circumference at the base and 14 meters tall; jutting out of the temple’s wall, its branches extending over the sidewalk outside. In most years, the tree blooms in mid-April, attracting large numbers of visitors.

This Jodo Shinshu Buddhist temple is situated along the Minami River a short distance down Prefectural Route 222 from National Route 249 following the Sea of Japan on the Noto Peninsula. The oldest and largest Jodo Shinshu temple in Noto, the temple's main building has a thatched roof, something seen almost nowhere else in Japan. The current main building was rebuilt in 1792; the carvings on the main temple gate and the temple's moss-covered steps speak of its great age. There is also an Agishikogiku-zakura cherry tree which has been designated a Natural Monument by the prefectural government. The tree's tiny flowers consist of nearly 200 petals and change color from crimson to pink to white between the time they are buds and eventually drop to the ground. The tree is in bloom from early through mid-May.

"This zen dojo is said to find its roots in a thatched hut built by the zen monk KeizanJokin over 700 years ago, around the Kamakura period. Later, in 1312, his student Meiho Sotetsu built a hall here, which became Noto's first zen dojo. The hall holds many temple treasures, among them mid-Heian period wooden statues of the standing Shokan Kannon Bodhisattva, the ""horse-necked"" Bato Kannon Bodhisattva, and the 11-Headed Kannon Bodhisattva, all of which are registered National Important Cultural Assets. The KessyoDaihannyakyo sutra, written in the blood of the historical abbot and his students, is registered as a Hakui city cultural asset. The Daihonzan Soujiji Soin Temple is a temple belonging to the Soto school of Buddhism located in Wajima City, Ishikawa Prefecture. This was originally the head temple of the Soto school, but a fire in 1898 caused severe damage to the temple, so the function of head temple was relocated to a temple in Yokohama City, and the temple in Wajima was renamed the Soujiji Soin Temple (“Founder’s Temple”). Today, the buildings within the Temple precincts include the Kyozo (Sutra Repository), Dento-in and Jiun-kaku, which all survived the fire, as well as Shichido-garan (Seven halls) that were rebuilt after the fire; the Temple continues to retain the solemn majesty appropriate to the former head temple of the Soto school.
