This long standing local cuisine restaurant was established in 1933. Situated on a rise overlooking the pure waters of the Sai River, the restaurant possesses a 3,000 square meter garden sprawling along the slope. Over its years in business, the establishment has built up a reputation as one of Kanazawa’s foremost dining experiences. In isolated, detached rooms, customers can enjoy elegant regional Kaga cuisine incorporating the sophistication of Kyoto. Attention has been paid to every detail, from the local, seasonal ingredients to the visually delightful Kutani ware and Wajima lacquerware serving dishes. The restaurant is the perfect place to celebrate turning points in life, including wedding receptions, family banquets, and special birthdays.

A renowned Kaga kaiseki course cuisine restaurant located a three minute walk from Kanazawa Station. Featuring an elegant Japanese atmosphere including private tatami rooms, a Japanese garden, and reception room, here you can enjoy seasonal meals weaving together the traditions of Kaga and the skills of a Kyoto-trained chef. The restaurant’s well-reviewed kaiseki course cuisine primarily focuses on seafood dishes made with seasonal items like blackthroat seaperch, crab, midwinter Japanese amberjack, sweet shrimp, firefly squid, and daggertooth pike conger, in addition to jibuni duck meat stew, a local Kanazawa dish. The restaurant’s “ogon” (golden) crab, so rare only one is caught every one or two thousand hauls, is also quite popular.

My husband and ate at this restaurant tonight. There is a menu in English and we chose a prix fixe meal, a small assortment of sashimi and the crab risotto. The bill, including a beer and 375Ml of...

This Japanese restaurant is representative of the “Kanazawa Ryotei,” which convey the traditions of the Kaga Hyakuman-koku Clan. It is located in Oyama Town, Kanazawa City, Ishikawa Prefecture. This long-established restaurant served the Kaga Domain’s Maeda Clan for generations, with its Gozen cuisine and ritual dishes. The restaurant proudly serves dishes such as “Otai-no-Karamushi (Chinese-style steamed sea bream)” and “Shiki no Jibu (duck meat simmered in soy and broth soup)” in its course meals, and even carefully selects the vessels it uses in its “Shokado Bento” lunches. The building and furnishings are historic, and there is a stunning four-seasons Japanese garden. Reservations must be made to dine at the restaurant.

This Japanese cuisine restaurant is in the Kanazawa Station shopping mall “Kanazawa Hyakubangai Anto.” They provide Japanese cuisine that uses in-season Kaga vegetables and fresh seafood from the Sea of Japan. In addition to the hometown cuisine “Jibuni,” there is the “Kagaya gozen” which offers you sashimi, fried foods, and rice with small fish, and also the “hirekatsu (fillet cutlet) zen” and “tempura zen.”

Had lunch at Kagaya, the food in the bento box was nicely displayed, it was pretty. The food was delicious. Recommended.

"A restaurant owned and operated by Matsuya, a company which sells ""Toriyasai Miso,"" a famous miso used for seasoning from Ishikawa. Toriyasai Miso is frequently used in homes in Ishikawa Prefecture to create a spicy miso nabe hotpot filled with vegetables. This local comfort food has also been featured in the media and is now famous nationwide. The toriyasai nabe chicken and vegetable hotpot served by this restaurant is a simple affair consisting of just meat and lots of Chinese cabbage. Diners can order additional chicken or pork meat in their soup; the restaurant also offers a zosui vegetable rice gruel set meal."

The restaurant's vaunted duck dishes are made with live-caught duck, including duck caught using a ""sakaami"" net in the traditional way. Examples include jibuni duck meat slow stewed in a signature broth; grilled duck meat skewers, and kuwayaki sauteed duck. Of course, traditional duck jibuni served in a small lacquered bowl is also on the menu. The restaurant's dishes are served using beautiful Kutani ware and Yamanaka lacquerware, ensuring your meal will be a delight for the eyes as well. The restaurant has a variety of seating options to meet all manner of meal occasions, including counter seating, tatami mat seating, private rooms, and a banquet hall."

"A Japanese izakaya pub serving traditional Kaga cuisine and oden stew made with Kanazawa ingredients. The establishment's traditional Kaga dishes, made with select local ingredients, are created with a focus on being able to enjoy them together with tasty local liquors at reasonable prices. The establishment stocks its ingredients fresh each morning from the Omi-cho Market, known as the ""kitchen of Kanazawa."" The establishment also offers around 40 distinctly Kanazawa-style oden dishes at any given time, including awabu (steamed wheat gluten mixed with millet), rock octopus, and banjugai clams. The establishment carries an abundant selection of local liquors, including several varieties of local Tengumai sake, such as ginjo and kizake pure sake varieties."

"A restaurant adjoining a souvenir shop in front of the oldest water fountain in Japan in the Kenrokuen garden. The restaurant serves as an oasis for visitors who come to enjoy the garden's seasonal beauty. Serving regional Kaga cuisine and sweets, the restaurant's traditionally Japanese dining area can accommodate 120 customers. The restaurant's signature dish is its ""Jibu Soba,"" a unique take on the popular local dish jibuni duck meat stew. The dish consists of soba noodles topped with jibuni stew. The restaurant also offers the tsukemen noodles with dipping sauce-style ""Tsuke Jibu Soba"" as well as ""Jibu Udon"" for udon noodle lovers. The adjoining souvenir shop sells traditional crafts and souvenirs from Ishikawa Prefecture; popular sweets like the ""Kotoji Toro,"" modeled after the elegant stone lantern which serves as a symbol of the garden, are particularly recommended."

"A Japanese restaurant serving original cuisine located close to the Omi-cho Market in Kanazawa. Here you can enjoy creative Japanese dishes crafted by the owner, who trained in a renowned restaurant in Osaka. The establishment is so popular, lines form in front of its door before it even opens. Emphasizing homemade, handmade and the use of select tableware, the restaurant's visually dazzling dishes can be enjoyed with Noto sake and local Kaga liquors. Particularly recommended (and particularly popular with women) is the ""Wateishoku"" lunch set, limited to just 30 customers a day. This variety-rich set comes with sashimi, takiawase, salad, and several different side dishes. Diners can choose between white rice and 15 grain rice. The set also comes with a post-meal cup of coffee."

The restaurant has a soothing atmosphere and has a variety of seating options to meet various dining needs, including counter seating perfect for diners on their own, semi-private tables, and spacious sunken kotatsu tatami mat seating. The restaurant particularly recommends the sashimi assortment, made with fresh seafood from the Omi-cho Market; the hearty extra-large fatty blackthroat seaperch broiled with salt; and the steamed Kaga lotus root with Kaga vegetables.

Located on the first floor of the Aoki Cooking School for which Aoki serves as headmaster, here you can enjoy a variety of distinctly regional Kanazawa dishes made with fresh, seasonal ingredients. "A chankonabe hotpot restaurant located close to Anamizu Station on the Noto Railway Nanao Line where you can enjoy authentic chankonabe made by a former sumo wrestler. A tasty dish that looks as hearty as it is, chankonabe is characterized by a flavor that is rich yet light created by stewing vegetables and meat in a soy sauce-based broth. The restaurants a la carte and nabemono stewed dishes made with local Anamizu seafood are also popular. "A restaurant serving fresh-caught seafood from the Sea of Japan located at the foot of Mt. Utatsu. The restaurant's signature ""Nodoguro Ishiyaki Gohan"" is particularly popular. Consisting of blackthroat seaperch served over rice in a stone bowl, the dish can be enjoyed three different ways in one sitting-first, as is; second, with your choice of condiments on top; and third, by pouring dashi stock over the rice to create a ""chazuke."" The colorful ""Saika Gozen"" comes with a variety of small dishes; only available on weekdays, it is particularly recommended for women who want to enjoy numerous foods without getting too full. The restaurant also offers a large selection of a la carte choices. The restaurant's 25-80 person banquet hall and 100 person Western-style White Room can be used for weddings, parties, and memorial services."
  • Shoya no Yakata

    Ishikawa Pref. Suzushi Mauramachi 10 - 1
"A restaurant located in Okunoto operating out of an eye-catching old Japanese home with a thatched roof. ""Shoya no Yakata"" means ""house of the village headman"", and as its name implies, the building was once used by a line of village headmen before being moved here and remodeled. The interior decor also exudes a sense of extreme age. From the restaurant's tatami mat seating area, diners can watch boats traveling between the nearby islands on the ocean when the weather is clear. The view of the sun setting into the ocean in this area has been selected as one of the 100 most beautiful in the country and is a must-see. The restaurant creates dishes using Noto beef and fresh seafood; its specialty is the seaweed shabushabu set meal. The most popular item on the menu, however, is the Noto beef steak rice bowl topped with a rose of tender Noto beef. In summer, the restaurant offers oyster dishes limited to just a few customers each day."

Long, thin Ishikawa prefecture runs along the Sea of Japan up into Noto Peninsula. Highlights of the seaside towns lining the west coast include Kanazawa, often described as a "Little Kyoto" thanks to its old wooden tea houses and geisha culture as well as its picturesque Japanese garden, Kenroku-en.
