    Ishikawa Kanazawa-shi Kiyokawamachi 3-11
A long-standing ryotei restaurant standing on the bank of the Sai River and one of only a very few restaurants still operating today which serve traditional Kaga ryotei cuisine. Housed in a mansion built at the end of the Meiji period, the restaurant has six private rooms as well as a banquet hall, each of which has a different but elegant atmosphere. All rooms offer a view of the restaurants garden, and diners can enjoy picturesque seasonal scenery with their meal - cherry blossoms in spring, fresh verdure in summer, fall foliage in autumn, and a charming snowscape in winter. The restaurant’s tasteful and extravagant Kaga kaiseki course cuisine, incorporating seasonal local ingredients and seafood, is like art. Here you can taste first-class cuisine with an emphasis on “omotenashi” - hospitality - the greatest of care has even been put into the tableware used. Suginoi was listed in the Michelin Guide Toyama Ishikawa (Kanazawa) 2016 Special Edition. The nearest station is Nomachi Station.

    ミシュラン2つ星を取得されて、ゴエミョ2020でもなかなかの評価なことも、大変うなずけます。素敵な本館のしつらえに、美味な上に美しいお皿の数々には瞠目いたしました。

At this Japanese cuisine restaurant, you can indulge in “Kanazawa-esque Seafood and Sake,” made by the owner who trained in Kyoto and Tokyo. Focusing on local ingredients, the owner’s proud seafood features only fresh items from local ports or from morning auctions at the market. Combining these in a unique way with in-season ingredients or traditional Kaga vegetables results in course meals with a great sense of the season. The lunch set is popular featuring several sides like rice, miso soup, grilled fish, or sashimi. The nearest station is Kanazawa Station. Seating is limited so reservations are recommended.

We were lucky to get the last two places in this small restaurant - it has one table and a counter so best to reserve if you want to get in. We had an outstanding evening. The traditional Japanese...

Kanawaza Gyokusen-tei located in Kosho Town, Kanazawa City, Ishikawa Prefecture is a garden restaurant overlooking Gyokusen-en which is a chisenkaiyu-style (strolling around a pond and a fountain) garden with a history some 120 years longer than Kenroku-en Garden (one of the three famous gardens in Japan). The restaurant adding a modern essence on a house built in the late Edo period (1615-1865) is enhanced with an elegant atmosphere from table seating with a fusion of Japanese and European style to a private room which duplicates Kan’untei, a Kyoto Urasenke style tea room. You can enjoy delicious kaiseki ryori (a sophisticated Japanese multi-course meal), meticulously cooked seafood from the Japan Sea, and seasonal Kaga vegetables.

This is the kind of kaiseki that other establishments might strive for, and hope to attain. The atmosphere, the service, as well as the food all rate top scores. My friends and I had a very memorable...

Ishikawa Pref. Housugunnotochou Yanagida Thank you party 37-1
"A Japanese restaurant located in the Yanagida area on the Noto Peninsula. The only part of Noto not adjoining the sea, Yanagida developed a unique style of cuisine different from the surrounding region. The restaurant serves a variety of seasonal dishes made with edible wild plants, river fish, mushrooms, and pheasant. The ""Noto-don"" rice bowl, topped with rare Noto beef raised in the region, is particularly popular. The restaurant takes thin slices of A3 rank and higher Noto beef and sears it lightly with a flame, garnishing it with wasabi and chrysanthemum flowers served over rice."

A Japanese restaurant which uses local ingredients from Wajima. The owner's family has been lacquerware artisans for three generations and the restaurant accordingly used high class Wajima lacquerware for its tableware. The restaurant's menu is omakase (chef's choice) style and, based on your price range, you will be served a variety of local seafood such as blackthroat seaperch and other dishes. The restaurant is also open during lunch, during which time you can order reasonably priced seafood and other set meals. As a souvenir for tourists, diners are given a set of chopsticks made with hiba wood harvested locally in Ishikawa Prefecture.

"A traditional ryotei Japanese restaurant located close to Hasuike Pond Gate in the Kenrokuen Garden. The restaurant was established in 1875. In this long standing establishment, you can enjoy a meal while taking in the seasonal scenery of the preeminent Japanese garden in the Kaga area. Many famous people, including members of the Imperial family, have dined at this restaurant. Today, the restaurant consists of two buildings-the Honkan main building on the shore of Hisago Pond, the original landscape feature which inspired the creation of the Kenrokuen; and the Suitei pavilion jutting out over the pond's waters. The Suitei is particularly popular because diners can enjoy the sound of the Midoritaki waterfall and the sight of the garden's scenery reflected off the surface of the pond sprawling just beyond the pavilion's windows. The restaurant serves matcha powdered green tea with seasonal namagashi fresh Japanese style sweets as well as reasonably priced kaiseki bento lunches. The ""Hisago Bento"" is particularly recommended and comes with a variety of traditional Kaga dishes."

"A Japanese restaurant standing along National Route 249 traveling from Wajima towards Suzu. From the restaurant's windows, you can see the Maura Coast and Tarumi falls, a famous ""reverse waterfall"" whose waters flow in reverse during the coldest part of winter. The restaurant's signature dish is its ""Noto Kaisen-don,"" a rice bowl topped with fresh seasonal and local Noto seafood. The rice bowl is topped with around 10 varieties of seasonal seafood, such as sea bream and flounder in spring and summer, and Japanese amberjack, crab and northern shrimp in fall and winter. The rice bowl is made with seafood fresh caught that morning, and thus diners can enjoy a rice bowl that both looks and tastes different every time depending on the season and timing."

"A ryotei traditional restaurant serving Kaga cuisine situated along National Route 359 in Kanazawa. Dedicated to using fresh ingredients raised in the lush, natural environment of Kanazawa, the appeal of the restaurant's cuisine is its unique fusion of tradition and innovation. The restaurant offers three lunches and three dinner course meals whose content and even tableware differs depending on the season. Other menu selections include a sashimi assortment and ""Jibu Steak,"" a unique take on traditional regional jibuni duck meat stew. In April, the restaurant serves a women-only ""Ohanami Gozen"" flower viewing meal which is even more visually appealing and cute than usual. The ""Hanakago Gozen,"" also only offered to women, is limited to 30 customers a day."

Ishikawa Areas

around-area-map

Long, thin Ishikawa prefecture runs along the Sea of Japan up into Noto Peninsula. Highlights of the seaside towns lining the west coast include Kanazawa, often described as a "Little Kyoto" thanks to its old wooden tea houses and geisha culture as well as its picturesque Japanese garden, Kenroku-en.
