Japanese Food Spots in Ishikawa Area

  • Shoya no Yakata
    Gourmet / Alcohol
    Ishikawa Pref. Suzushi Mauramachi 10 - 1
"A restaurant located in Okunoto operating out of an eye-catching old Japanese home with a thatched roof. ""Shoya no Yakata"" means ""house of the village headman"", and as its name implies, the building was once used by a line of village headmen before being moved here and remodeled. The interior decor also exudes a sense of extreme age. From the restaurant's tatami mat seating area, diners can watch boats traveling between the nearby islands on the ocean when the weather is clear. The view of the sun setting into the ocean in this area has been selected as one of the 100 most beautiful in the country and is a must-see. The restaurant creates dishes using Noto beef and fresh seafood; its specialty is the seaweed shabushabu set meal. The most popular item on the menu, however, is the Noto beef steak rice bowl topped with a rose of tender Noto beef. In summer, the restaurant offers oyster dishes limited to just a few customers each day."
  • Sushikuine (Komatsuoki Restaurant)
    Gourmet / Alcohol
    Ishikawa Pref. Komatsushi Okimachi 8-7
"The Komatsu Okimachi location of this conveyor belt sushi restaurant chain which operates in the prefectures of Ishikawa and Toyama. The restaurant's seafood is shipped straight from Kanazawa Port and Himi Port. Aiming to serve authentic, high quality sushi, the restaurant uses select seafood and the composition of the sushi rice is changed depending on the season and weather. Besides standard sushi favorites, many of the selections on the menu are seasonal, such as midwinter Japanese amberjack, spear squid, and female snow crab, and one of the biggest appeals of the restaurant is that you can enjoy these truly seasonal and ephemeral tastes here. The menu primarily consists of sets of popular sushi such as the ""Kanazawa-zukushi"" and the ""Himi-zukushi."" There's also a fish tank in the kitchen to ensure the restaurant can serve truly fresh sushi varieties."

    Ishikawa Pref. Hakusanshi Tanakamachi 617
The Matto main location of a conveyor belt sushi restaurant chain operating in the prefectures of Ishikawa and Toyama. In addition to sushi made with select seafood straight from the port, the restaurant also serves vegetable sushi such as avocado, and shiitake sushi, and pressed sushi topped with lightly pickled eggplant and cucumber. The owner particularly recommends the 10 and 15 piece nigirizushi and tokujo first class nigirizushi sets. The restaurant offers lunch sets from Monday to Saturday (excluding holidays), three out of four of which are limited to a set number of customers per day. All are reasonably priced and come with nigirizushi and arajiru fish scraps soup. Diners can also enjoy fresh made sushi in comfort by making an order using a touch screen which will then be delivered via a high speed lane.

A Japanese restaurant which makes use of seasonal ingredients from Ishikawa. The inside of the restaurant is adorned largely with cheery, light-colored unfinished wood. In addition to table and counter seating, the restaurant also offers a variety of private dining options. In winter, the restaurant is famous for its kaiseki course cuisine made with blackthroat seaperch caught just off the coast. The establishment also serves a full array of lunch options, including such home-style dishes as croquettes, soba noodles, and grilled fish. Selections such as the particularly popular blackthroat seaperch and pork marinated in miso and the stewed pork belly are available for takeout as well as delivery.

    Ishikawa Hakusan-shi Kinameri De 75-1
A restaurant which makes use of local ingredients from the foot of Mt. Hakusan. The restaurant is dedicated to three loves - love of the mountain, love of food, and love of customers. In 2010, the restaurant was awarded top place in the Ishikawa Society of Commerce and Industry's Best Establishment Awards. The restaurant primarily uses fresh edible wild plants picked at the foot of Mt. Hakusan, and local river fish such as char and sweetfish. The restaurant makes use of a variety of preparation methods, including deep fried karaage, pickled sunomono, and sashimi. In winter, you can order a traditional bear meat hot pot.

Ishikawa Wajima-shi Miimachi Koizumi Urushihara 14-2
A restaurant with a distinctive thatch roof sign standing on the intersection of Prefectural Route 271 and Prefectural Route 1 on the western edge of Ishikawa Prefecture Kenko no Mori. The entire area is a hotel where visitors can experience the Noto way of life, and the centerpiece is this restaurant operating out of a thatch roof home built over 150 years ago and moved to this location. Enjoy vaunted Noto mountainside cuisine, such as the Satoyama Marugoto Teishoku, an assortment of seasonal Noto dishes; and the Noto Satoyama Curry made with flying fish dashi stock.

The owner who runs this restaurant, also rents out this beautiful recently renovated 150 year old house which we originally booked for two nights. The area is gorgeous, and though you could get here...

  • Kaiyu Oto no Sho Nebuta cafe

    Ishikawa Wajima-shi Onomachi Tsurugaike 72
"The restaurant is located along the coastline on National Route 249 east of downtown Wajima, and is home to the ""Kaiyu Noto no Sho"" onsen ryokan. As a hot spring ryokan, you can take a relaxing bath after your meal or just relax in your room."
  • Buddhist Vegetarian Cuisine at the Sojiji Soin Temple
    Gourmet / Alcohol
    Ishikawa Wajima-shi Monzenmachi Monzen 1-18-1
This historic Buddhist temple, situated along National Route 249 in Wajima City, Ishikawa Prefecture, was founded in 1321 as the head temple of Soto Buddhism. The Soto head temple was moved to Yokohama City's Tsurumi in 1910 after a large fire, but this temple was later rebuilt, regaining its position as a fundamental center for training and study. Today, the temple offers zazen meditation activities and, with an advance reservation, visitors can also try the temple's shojin ryoryi traditional Japanese Buddhist cuisine. The menu consists of only two choices: either just a honzen main course meal or a honzen meal plus side dishes. This authentic shojin ryori cuisine is made with seasonal vegetables and fruits with a focus on ingredients picked by ascetic monks in undeveloped woodlands, and the food is served on Wajima lacquerware.

Ishikawa Areas

around-area-map

Long, thin Ishikawa prefecture runs along the Sea of Japan up into Noto Peninsula. Highlights of the seaside towns lining the west coast include Kanazawa, often described as a "Little Kyoto" thanks to its old wooden tea houses and geisha culture as well as its picturesque Japanese garden, Kenroku-en.
