"This Japanese pub, the sister company of the Nadaraso guesthouse, offers cuisine made with fresh ingredients from Toyama Bay. Their menu changes based on the catch of the day. Located by Himi City Museum on National Route 415, their chefs can prepare food that matches the customer's requests and their budget, even cuisines that are not on the menu. The pub is open for lunch and for dinner. During lunch service, they offer ""Tamate box"" set meals that change each day and are popular with female customers. During dinner service, they offer a range of flame-broiled dishes and appetizers that make them a great place for casual parties."

Located inside of a renovated old Japanese-style house, the cafe's interior has a distinct sense of warmth and nostalgia. Part of Japan's so-called sixth industrialization, the cafe offers items made with plentiful amounts of fresh seasonal ingredients raised on the premises. Some of their most popular items include their ""Choja dango"" dumplings, which are available in a variety of flavors including sweet soy sauce, strained adzuki bean paste, mayonnaise, and cream cheese, as well as their limited edition parfaits made with copious amounts of seasonal fruit."

    Toyama Pref. Toyamashi Jouhokumachi 9-11
"This confectionary shop is located near the Johokumachi crossing on Prefectural Route 30. Professing a creed of ""preserving traditions while exploring new delicious tastes,"" the shop has kept alive the methods and flavors passed down since its founding. The shop is popular for the tastes it has refined since opening in 1951 as well as for its untiring spirit of enquiry. Each of their naturally-flavored sweets is made without additives, providing customers with peace of mind. Some of their notable products include their coffee-flavored Mikasayama, inspired by a conversation with family members, and their Nama Dorayaki, created based on interactions with customers. The fluffy cake and the sweetness created by the homemade adzuki bean paste make each of these treats highly addictive."

"Omokage, a famous confectionery of Unazuki Onsen, was developed by Fukutaya Confectionery, which opened at the end of the Taisho period (1912-1926). Inspired by the rhododendrons in Kurobe Gorge, the confectionery is made of sweet red bean paste wrapped in gyuhi and a skin of ""monaka"" (a type of bun). During the war, the store was temporarily closed due to a sugar shortage, but it reopened five years after the war's end and has remained a local favorite. As proof of this, a bridge over the Kurobe River was built in 1967 (Showa 42) and named ""Omokage Bridge."

Onsen manju is made with adzuki beans and brown sugar from Tokachi, Hokkaido, while moromi manju is made with moromi soy sauce and white bean paste. 3,000 units have been sold in a single day. To maintain freshness, they sell only the products made that day, and they also sell them by reservation."

  • Shoeido

    Toyama Kurobe-shi Mikkaichi 1078-1
This shop combines the beauty of the changing seasons, and a tradition of flavor passed down since ages past. The Kurobe, a town famous for clean water, sweets made here are the products of skilled craftsmen. We highly recommend the Kazumi Apple Pie, made with apples from Uozu City's Kazumino district spreading apple orchards, and filled with elegant sweetness and a delicate sourness. They also offer dorayaki buns, gelatin desserts, walnut manju buns, and more, all made with select ingredients.

Toyama Areas

around-area-map

Toyama is one of the three prefectures that house the Japanese Alps, with its southern and eastern borders comprising one long stretch of mountains, out of which the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route is forged. While traditional crafts fill the northern coastal cities of Toyama and Takaoka, thatched roof houses offer unrivalled views against a backdrop of fantastic scenery at Gokayama in the mountainous area in the south of the prefecture.
