- This morning market beloved by locals is held on San Hachi Dori Street, a 15-minute walk from Naoetsu Station. During the market, the broad street is lined end-from-end with vendors offering items such as fruits and vegetables, as well as fresh, locally-caught fish and unusual processed seafoods. Started by the local young persons' association? in 1911, the market was originally held on dates with a 5 or 9 but changed the next year to being held on dates with a 3 or 8, which it has stayed ever since. The market is popular for being a place where you can buy Joetsu's famous Sasa-ame sweet or pickles hand-made by local farmers.
