This ropeway runs approximately one kilometer from behind Yahiko Shrine to the summit of Mt. Yahiko. It is a ten-minute walk from Yahiko Shrine to the base station, and there is also a free shuttle bus between the two. The ropeway was opened in 1958. The summit station can be reached in approximately five minutes, and a majestic view of the Echigo Plains and the mountains can be seen in the distance as you climb the mountain. Additionally, in the summer, there is a Yakei and Hoshizora Cruise (Night View and Starry Sky Cruise) available for people to enjoy watching the sun set over the Sea of Japan and to see the vast Echigo Plains at night. The ropeway is the perfect place to watch the sun setting beyond the Japanese sea and also to see the night view of the Echigo Plains. And in the fall, the autumn leaves cover the mountains, giving the ropeway gorgeous scenery in every season.

A hands-on museum built on the site of the former Nishimikawa Gold Mine in Sado City, Niigata Prefecture. Mentioned in the Konjaku monogatarishu, a collection of stories dated to the end of the Heian period, this ancient and historic mine even helped fund the war efforts of Uesugi Kenshin, a historic figure. The museum presents a variety of materials relating to gold and gold mining in its exhibition rooms and theater. There’s also a museum shop. The museum lets visitors try panning for gold and participants can take home the gold dust they find stored in a keychain or pendant.

This ropeway can be found at Muikamachi Hakkaisan Ski Resort, approximately 20 minutes by car from the Kan-etsu Expressway's Muikamachi Interchange. Its charm lies in the 360-degree panoramic view from the gondola. Especially in the fall, it is a well-known sightseeing spot for people wanting to see the autumn leaves, which cover the whole mountainside. The ropeway stretches from the station at the foot of the mountain at an elevation of 376 meters, to the mountain peak station at 1,147 meters. In the mountain climbing season, it is also possible to climb to the peak of Mt. Hakkai, one of Echigo's three peaks.

This tourist boat dock in Ogi Port is a four-minute walk from Sado Kisen. It is popular for its taraibune (wash tub boat) rides, one of Sado's key tourist attractions. The relaxing boats, which seat up to three adults, can be paddled by an oarswoman or by the passengers themselves. While the boats might appear unstable, they are surprisingly hard to capsize, making riding one like taking a leisurely stroll on the ocean. The dock also offers motorboat tours of the Ogi Coast lasting between 10 to 35 minutes, as well as high-speed sightseeing boats (group reservation required).

漕いでくれる女性がいて私たちは乗っているだけ。揺れることは揺れるも救命胴衣付けることもないので安全なのだろう。港の中をグルっと回るだけなので景色が変わらないのは残念であった。たらい船は３か所あるみたい小木・宿根木・矢島と。小木・矢島はたらい船安定のための仕掛けがあるようだが、宿根木は本来のたらい船の様である。

This ropeway located a five-minute drive from Yuzawa Interchange connects Echigo-Yuzawa hot springs town with the Yuzawa Kogen Alps no Sato. Yuzawa Kogen Alps no Sato is a leisure complex with a number of attractions including trekking, zip-line adventures, and more. The 1,300-meter-long ropeway takes seven minutes to reach the top. The size of each cable cars of two cable cars, among the world's largest, is the size of two busses. Up to 166 people can ride in either the red Alpen Flora or the blue White Spur. Take in the great views of the seasonal scenery of Yuzawa Kogen from the cable cars' big windows as you enjoy a graceful stroll through the air.

This water-going shuttle connects the Minatopia Niigata City History Museum and Niigata Furusato Village by way of some of Niigata’s most top tourism destinations. Customers can enjoy a comfortable journey on the 100-seat-capacity boats Anastasia and Beatrice. The shuttle visits destinations such as Toki Messe, the west side of Bandai Bridge, and the Niigata Prefectural Government Office; serving as a means of transportation, the shuttles can also be used for parties and other engagements. A variety of plans are available, including all-you-can-drink plans and plans which come with a shokado bento box meal. This all-weather pick-your-own strawberry farm, Uonuma's first, is a five-minute drive from Yuzawa Interchange. Open from January to the end of June, people of all ages can enjoy picking strawberries rain, snow, or shine. Guests can pick sweet and juicy Echigohime strawberries (a variety exclusive to Niigata Prefecture) raised with great attention to their watering and cultivation in the farm's three big greenhouses. The farm is wheelchair accessible, as the strawberries can be picked without bending over and the greenhouses were built with wide passages. Visitors can choose to either take home their strawberries or enjoy the all-you-can-eat option. The farm also has a rest area where you can eat your strawberries.

This is a taiko facility where guests can experience a program of the international taiko performance group Kodo, which is based on Sado. Not only are groups welcome but individuals can also make advance reservations to try taiko. Sasagawa-nagare Coast Boat Ride last around 40 minutes; passengers can enjoy viewing incredibly clear waters (ranked among the Top 100 clearest in Japan) and feeding the seagulls. Between April and October, there is also a special, once-a-month “Yoshitsune Journey - Sasagawa Nagare Evening Cruise,” which is very enjoyable; watching the sun setting over the Sea of Japan and admiring the beautiful scenery of the Sasagawa Nagare coast is a deeply moving experience. The dock from which the boat trips depart is located around 15-minute walk from JR Kuwagawa Station.

16:00が最終便だと思って、15:30頃に着きましたが、今出たこところだから待って下さいと言われて、16:15の出航でした。 HPをもう一度見てみると、きちんと時間が決まってないようでした。待合室の2階がカフェになっていて、海を見ながらゆっくり出来るので良かったです。船から見る景色はとても綺麗で、説明もあるので楽しめました。折り返した後はカモメの餌やりタイムになります。

Niigata Prefecture Myoko City Suginozawa Sasagake Peak

This ranch in the Sasagamine Highlands is a 40-minute drive from Myoko-Kogen Interchange. The ranch, which was founded in 1902, is located along the promenade that circles Sasagamine. It sits on a 1,300 meter-high gently sloping plateau surrounded by a number of mountains over 2,000 meters tall, including Mt. Myoko, Mt. Hiuchi, Mt. Yakeyama, and Mt. Kurohime. The ranch puts its cattle out to pasture around June each year. Visitors can watch see them leisurely chew grass all over the ranch from early summer when the yellow buttercups first bloom until the fall when the trees get their autumn foliage. The ranch is home to a number of large Japanese elm trees, creating a scenic beauty evocative of some far-off European country.

The Yamakoshi Alpaca Farm is open to visitors between May and November each year. The Farm came into existence as the result of a donation of three alpacas from a donor in Colorado in the U.S.A., who expressed the hope that they might help to cheer people up in the village of Yamakoshi (which had been seriously affected by an earthquake a few years previously). The community of Yubu began looking after the three alpacas. The number of alpacas has grown since then, and Yubu is now a lively area that large numbers of tourists visit to see these fluffy, adorable animals. The Yamakoshi Alpaca Farm is located around 25-minute drive from the Ojiya Interchange of the Kan-Etsu Expressway.

農業関連のいろいろな体験ができるのがこの施設の売りですが、何も目的がないと、直売所も小さくてあまり面白くはないです。同じ新潟市の中央区に「いくとぴあ」というこちらの施設とややコンセプトが被った施設がありますが、ほぼ同時期にオープンしたのに、どうして２つに分けたのか・・・１つにまとめればいいのに。相互の施設が小粒になった感じが否めません。新潟市民としては税金の無駄遣い的なイメージがあります。

This is a 40-minute round trip river cruise down the Agano River. The boats depart every hour, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., from the Roadside Station Aga no sato, along National Route 49. The cruise is accompanied by a talk from the ferryman and with cheerful boating songs. Also not to be missed is the beautiful valley of Okuaga, one of the 100 Landscapes of Japan. In the spring and summer, the valley is covered with flowers, burning autumn leaves in the fall, and a blanket of snow in the winter. The winter landscape is especially fantastic, the carpet of snow seeming as if it had come out of an ink painting.

This is a tourist facility in Tsugawa, Aga, Higashi Kanbara, Niigata Prefecture, famous for kitsunebi (floating orbs of light). Every year on the third of May exhibitions and local souvenirs on the theme of “Tsugawa Fox’s Marriage Procession” are displayed and sold. “Tsunagawa Fox’s Marriage Procession” is an event where the bride imitates the movements of a fox while walking along a night road, reproducing marriage processions of the Edo period. Inside the hall visitors can see a reproduction diorama, enjoy making a fox mask and a fox makeup experience.

This all-weather farm is 15-minutes from the Kurosaki Interchange. This is the oldest organic farm in Niigata growing fruits from all seasons with minimal use of pesticides. Along with being able to pick fruit year-round you can enjoy their original fruit pizza baked in their own lava-stone oven. You can also feed and play with their goats and rabbits as well as enjoy a BBQ under the grape vines in the vineyard.

Located around three minutes' walk from Kita-Sanjo Station on the JR Yahiko Line, the Sanjo Blacksmith Dojo is a facility where visitors can enjoy a blacksmithing experience under the guidance of experienced professional blacksmiths. The Dojo offers a variety of different courses and activities in which participants can learn about the traditional techniques of Sanjo, a town with a long blacksmithing tradition, including forging, woodworking, and making traditional Butsudan (small Buddhist altars installed in family homes). There are three basic programs available: the kitchen knife sharpening experience, where participants who bring their own kitchen knives with them can learn how to sharpen the knife properly using grinding stones; Wakugi (Japanese-style nail) making experience, in which participants learn basic forging techniques, which involve beating hot iron with a hammer; and the paper-knife making experience, which enables participant to experience a wider range of blacksmithing techniques, including forging, grinding, and polishing. Participants must be in the fourth grade of elementary school or older.

Visitors at the Mikawa Tourism Mushroom Farm can enjoy looking for mushrooms among the large natural expanse in Aga Town, Higashikanbara County, Niigata Prefecture. Upon arrival visitors receive a bucket from where they can walk around and go mushroom picking. When finished the mushrooms are weighed and paid for. Admission is free. About 10 different varieties of mushroom can be found on the farm depending on the season including shiitake mushrooms, which taste great in the spring, the firm textured eryngii mushrooms, maitake, often referred to as ‘hen of the woods’, oyster mushrooms, and pink oyster mushrooms, not often found in nature. The large canteen overlooking the Casablanca Garden serves all sorts of food made with mushrooms such as mushroom soup and udon noodles, soba and tempura. The barbecue with lots of mushrooms is also very popular.

This farm tries a lot of different things, focused around their years-long development of fruit tomatoes, with strawberry cultivation, dried fruit tomato production, ham and original sausage making, and more. Their efforts are cultivation in a low chemical, low fertilizer environment, they were certified as an Ecofarmer by Niigata prefecture in 2004. They have been working on fruit tomatoes, as sweet and flavorful as any fruit, since 1985. They grow in an environment designed to increase the sugar content of tomatoes, making them every bit as sweet and aromatic as any fruit. Most years, you can also enjoy strawberry picking in the greenhouses from February through May.

At this facility in Minamiuonuma, one of the top producing areas for Koshihikari rice, you can experience the countryside life. To reach the facility by car head east about 10-minutes from the Shiozawa-Ishiuchi Interchange on the Kan-Etsu Expressway. There are different courses offered year-round giving you the chance to experience a variety of countryside activities, from planting rice in the spring, to harvesting crops in the summer, picking rice in the fall, and building igloos in the winter. There are also 10 indoor courses offered year-round including making soba noodles and mochi rice-cake pounding. Try the Countryside Cafeteria where you can taste the local koshihikari rice and vegetables as well as soba noodles. Come experience the flavor of Minamiuonuma's countryside.

We loved this experience. You can have hands on experience making this families Soba recipe. Our kids loved it and, though we do not speak Japanese, it was so amazing and easy to follow along...

Niigata Sado-shi Aikawa Kitazawa Machi 2

A cultural facility adjoining the former Kitazawa Flotation Plant, said to have once been the largest mineral flotation processing plant in Asia. Here visitors can experience Mumyoi ware and Sakiori recycled cloth weaving, two traditional crafts native to the Aikawa Area. A designated National Important Intangible Cultural Property, Mumyoi ware is a type of pottery fired at high temperatures made with “mumyoi,” a mineral-rich clay produced from the Sado Gold Mine which contains iron oxide. Extremely hard, this pottery makes a clear, metallic sound when struck. Sakiori cloth is woven from strips of old cloth using a loom called Nemaribata. The facility’s staff can provide you with attentive, detailed guidance with either craft, making it easy to experience these traditional arts (advance reservation required).

北沢浮遊選鉱場に面しています。入場無料です。裂織りや焼き物を体験できる施設です。裂織りの素晴らしい作品や小物なども展示販売されています。体験学習にも利用されているようです。選鉱場見学の後にふらっと立ち寄りましたが、素敵な場所でした。
