    This tourist commodity center is adjacent to the JR Itoigawa Station. As the first stop for people sight-seeing in Itoigawa, there are souvenir shops selling goods such as local sake and confectionery, and B-grade gourmet restaurants, which serve Itoigawa Black Yakisoba, among other local delicacies, as well as a tourist information center, which has information on the various tourist attractions in the area such as Itoigawa Geopark. Another must-see is the 8-ton Jadeite stone, which is unique to Itoigawa. Nearby, there is a jade factory, which sells original jade accessories.

    糸魚川駅の南口に、ヒスイ王国館がありました。館内にはヒスイを販売するコーナーのほかに、糸魚川のおみやげがいろいろそろっている物産センターもあり、2階には観光案内所もありました。 列車で糸魚川に着いたら糸魚川の情報を得に、または糸魚川を出発する前に糸魚川のおみやげを探しに訪れるとよいですね。

    Pier Bandai is the largest fresh food market along the Sea of Japan with a seafood center and farmer’s market. Thanks to its cafeterias, kaiten-zushi (conveyor belt sushi), and ramen shops, this is becoming a place to fully appreciate Niigata’s foods. There is also a BBQ area where all the necessary materials are supplied, so guests can borrow a BBQ set (for a fee) and enjoy cooking the food they have just purchased on site. The facility has an excellent location set in the heart of Niigata City.

    最初裏の通りを歩いていたのですが、随分と古い建物が有るなという感じでした。ただ表に回ると外壁は古いですが、内部を現代的に改造したお店が複数ありました。活気が戻ってほしいですね。

In addition to the main building with four restaurants and shops, there is the “Sengyo Center” that sells seafood from the Sea of Japan, and the “Kaniya Yokocho” (fishing forbidden in January and February) which sells red snow crabs caught in Nou Fishing Port. And, in the adjacent “Kanikani Kan,” there are tables and a place to wash your hands. They bring the crab soon after purchase, so you can try it.

    Machiya Gallery Yamakichi is a gallery housed within one of the old townhouses, or machiya, which has been designated as one of the nation’s Registered Tangible Cultural Properties. The building still retains the charm of the Edo period with its stylish black tiles and window grills. The gallery mainly handles pieces from local craftsmen and handicrafts made by traditional craftsmen with quite a range on offer such as salted salmon patchwork, and Uetsu shinafu (a kind of woven textile). Inside the building you can see the hearth and living room and also you can see furnishings like the old wooden panels and sliding doors which were fashionable at the time. The nearest station is Murakami Station.

    This store is directly managed by the Yasuda Yoghurt factory, and sells all of Yasuda Yoghurt's products, including yoghurts, sweets, bread and original goods. There is also an in-store cafe that has various menu items such as a morning plate and various lunch plate with yoghurt salad, waffles and toasted sandwiches.

    Created in 2002, Stock Busters is a factory outlet that sells dead stock at prices lower than half suggested retail prices. Every year, roughly 1,000 tourist buses come to this outlet as a famous tourist spot and farmer’s market. The wide selection of kitchen goods, lifestyle items, outlet products, gardening items, etc. is worth a look. Approximately 13 minutes by car from JR Tsubame Station.

    新潟に行く予定があったので寄ってみました。他県ナンバーが多い印象でした。 農家用の鍬と枝切り鋏をを買いました。鍬は1100円と手頃なお値段でした。プロ使用の調理道具もあり見ているだけでも楽しいです。

    At the Roadside Station Tsubame-Sanjo Regional Industries Promotion Center, the Regional Products Store displays and sells Sanjo cutlery, and the restaurant Messepia features a choice of cutlery and local dishes. Both are popular. At the Regional Products Store, you can buy souvenirs with that special Niigata flavor, such as local sake, koshihikari rice and Echigo sweets, in addition to western kitchenware and knives. Approximately five minutes by car via Sanjo Tsubame Interchange on the Hokuriku Expressway.

    This food store and café is located near the West Exit of Echigo-Yuzawa Station. They also sell koji-pickled items and other sides for rice, Uonuma Koshihikari rice from contracted farms, and miso which is also used in the adjacent lodge “Hatago Isen.” Also, they have original sweets like “Yuzawa ruuro” (limited 24 per day)—a roll-cake made using rice flour. And in the adjacent café, you can enjoy a toast set or sweets with your coffee made with hot spring water.

    越後湯沢駅の中の飲食街にあるカフェ。ミルクソフトも美味しいが、お店のお勧めのチーズケーキは是非食べていただきたい。

    This rice ball shop is managed by a farm in Shiozawa, Minamiuonuma City, Niigata Prefecture. It has been featured on TV and always has a line forming outside. The rice used here is Koshihikari rice produced with no pesticides and carefully grown in rice paddies with the well water in which carp are left loose. Each rice ball is meticulously handmade and filled with the farmers’ love, bringing out the full taste of the rice. There’s also an eating area where you can enjoy the popular pickled tuna rice bowl, curry, and more.

    An art gallery standing halfway between Niigata City Art Museum and the Niigata Bandaijima Art Museum. The gallery was establishment with the aim of providing opportunities to come in contact with fine art, and to contribute to the creation of an environment in which the appreciation of art is part of the cultural activities enjoyed by local residents. Operating out of a remodeled townhouse dating to the Taisho period, the gallery’s exhibition room is a space where visitors can experience a variety of quality works of art. The gallery holds a variety of exhibitions each month, providing opportunities for incorporating art into the private spaces of the home and office. One of the gallery’s charms is that many of its featured artists personally visit the facility, enabling visitors to experience their works of art and worldview on an even deeper level.

    新潟駅からは、信濃川を渡り、徒歩で30分程度で到着できます。外観は日本建築で大正時代の古民家をリノベーションが施されています。そして館内は画廊です。訪問した時は、“華雪書展”の展示でした。

    Sennenzake Kikkawa is a long established store which sells salmon products located in Murakami City, Niigata Prefecture, famous for its salmon. Over 100 kinds of recipes involving salmon remain to this day. The store was founded in 1626 as a wholesaler of rice, but after handling fermented food products such as miso, soy sauce, and sake, the shop turned its attention to the production and selling of salmon products. There is a countless number of salmon hanging from the rafters in the extremely historical shop building with salmon and salmon roe products, produced without any additives, displayed within. Their most popular product is the salted salmon, cured for about one month.

    今年の3月も、おひな様を見に来ました。ぶら下がっている新巻き鮭も圧巻です。江戸時代からのおひな様も惜しげなく展示されています。日本酒を一本買いました。

    This is a Niigata local sake and rice themed shopping center located within JR Niigata station. Visitors can enjoy sake made in 93 different breweries from the Niigata Echigo area in the “Sake Tasting corner” and “rice ball bombs” made from Koshihikari rice grown in the Minamiuonuma area at the “Yukinhora” restaurant as well as a sake bath called the “Yunosawa” in the facility. In the produce sales section, special Niigata products such as local foods using rice and “koji” rice malt, sake and confectioneries are sold. It is an irresistible spot for those who are Japanese sake enthusiasts.

    This seafood vendor is based in a fish market street nicknamed Sakana no Ameyoko Shotengai in Teradomari, Nagaoka City. The vendor, one of the largest in the market, is frequently covered in the media, making it a popular destination for locals and tourists alike. The shop mostly deals in freshly-caught seafood. Its shop windows are packed with salmon fillets, tuna, bonito, sea bream, mackerel, crab, squid, and shrimp. It also carries shellfish like turban shell and abalone (in summer) and oysters (in fall and winter). Their fresh bluefin tuna sushi is especially good. The shop also conducts tuna cutting demonstrations where customers can buy the freshly-cut tuna.

    A tourism facility located in Akiyamago, an area known for its remoteness and called a paradise since ancient times. Surrounded by old-fashioned, bucolic scenery, facilities include a hotel, outdoor bath, restaurant, and shop. The restaurant boasts a panoramic view of Akiyamago; the Moegi Teishoku combo meal, made with an abundance of local ingredients, is particularly recommended. The hearty meal comes with char grilled with salt shioyaki style, kenchin jiru vegetable soup, a local stew called hira, and a side. The use of local Uonuma-grown Koshihikari rice further enhances the innate flavors of the ingredients used.

    津南町、秋山郷の手前にあります立派な施設です。場所柄空いていることが多くゆっくりお湯に浸かることができました。特に露天風呂は内湯から離れていますが山々を見ながら入れますので大自然の中リラックスできますよ。山深いところにありますがドライブやツーリングルートでの立ち寄りがおすすめです。

There is also a direct sales store that sells fresh vegetables, processed products from local farmers, and folk crafts as well as a restaurant that serves tonkatsu and ramen which is made using Uonuma's Tsumaari brand pork.
