This is an art museum opposite “Hakone Botanical Garden of Wetlands” at Sengokuhara, Hakone Town. It houses armor and weapons, Ukiyoe prints, and tea ceremony items from between the Muromachi period to the end of the Edo period, constantly displaying about 300 items. There is also an area where visitors can try on armor and shogunate police (Shinsengumi) clothes.

  • The inverted image of Mt. Fuji reflected in Lake Ashi
    Travel / Tourism

The image of Mt. Fuji reflected in the waters of Lake Ashi (Ashi-no-ko) is known as “Sakasa-Fuji” (“Inverted Mt. Fuji”) in Japanese, and is renowned as one of the most beautiful views of Mt. Fuji. When the conditions are just right (in the early morning, when there are no tourist boats etc. out on the Lake, and when the wind is not too strong), the crystal-clear water functions as a mirror, reflecting the mirror-image of Mt. Fuji. Whether you will be able to see the reflected image on any given day is a matter of luck.

It was created by Don-ou (Takashi Masuda), the founder of Mitsui Konzern, who was famous as a tea master. There are three tea rooms on the spacious premises (""Fusenan,"" ""Hakuundo"" and ""Taijisai"") and two areas for outdoor tea ceremonies. Among them, Hakuundo is cherished as a tearoom designed by Don-ou. You can experience the tea ceremony in the tearoom for a fee."

Extras here- pottery-making, beads, etc. are expensive. Opt instead for a walk around the park and visit to greenhouse, which is lovely.
