This beach’s name, meaning “seven ri beach,” comes from the fact that it extends seven ri (an ancient Japanese unit of distance approximately 3.9 kilometers long) from Inamuragasaki to the Koyurugi Peninsula. Renowned for its beautiful view of Enoshima and Mt. Fuji, the area frequently appears in ukiyo-e and in the lines of kabuki plays. The area was also once open as a swimming beach, but today swimming is prohibited along its entire length.

Kanagawa Areas

around-area-map

Kanagawa prefecture acts as an extension of the Tokyo metropolis that spills over into coastal towns, most notably Yokohama city, heavily populated and known for its Chinatown and seaside attractions. Just the right distance for a day trip out of Tokyo, Kanagawa is home to some of Tokyo’s most accessible beaches, including around Kamakura, best known for its Big Buddha. Visitors can also travel a little farther afield for a weekend at Hakone onsen town.
