    These are two waterfalls in the garden of the Japanese inn “Tenseien” in Hakone Town, Ashigarashimo County, Kanagawa Prefecture. They are famous in Hakone for their water, which supposedly grants longevity. The beautiful eight-meter tall, 11-meter wide “Tamadare” waterfall was loved by poet Akiko Yosano, and it was named “Tamadare” because the way the water flows over the rock cliff makes it look like “tamasudare” (rain lilies). There is a sacred Shinto straw festoon in the middle of the cliff. “Hien” waterfall was named such because the splashing water looks like rising smoke. About 20 meters tall and 10 meters wide, it makes a powerful impression. Tamadare-jinja Shrine is situated between the waterfalls and is said to bring love, good health, and so on. The garden with the waterfalls can be accessed by people who aren’t lodging there or using the baths.

    Nice falls within walking distance from Hotel Kajikaso hotel. There was no people when we went around 5 PM.

    You can reach this well-known cascade in Hirayama, Yamakita-machi by taking a bus from Yamakita Station. The famous Kamakura period priest Mongaku is said to have trained at the waterfall, and its name derives from a line of esoteric Buddhist verse. Apart from being named one of the 100 elections of the waterfall in Japan, it has been designated one of Kanagawa's top-50 scenic views, one of the top 100 Future Heritage Spots, and one of the Top 100 Famous Water. Looking up at the thundering waterfall surrounded by greenery from the vermilion painted bridge, you'll absorb negative ions and become refreshed both physically and mentally. Step out of time and away from the noise of the city and enjoy the pure, beautiful flow of these falls.

    Cascading from the inner branch of the Sakawa River, these falls are approximately five meters wide and 23 meters high. During the summer time, the campsite is available and visitors enjoy playing in the waters. Annually, the first Sunday of July is the ceremony for opening the falls, during which time prayers for the safety of all mountain climbers and campsite visitors are offered. The surrounding woods provide a beautiful setting for the falls to view the spring and autumn foliage, which attracts many visitors.

    The Fudo-taki Waterfall is a famous 15 meter high waterfall located on a tributary of the Fujiki River. The water crashes down with immense force, creating white spray. The Fudo-take Waterfall is famous as the place where the geologist Dr. Sakurai Kinichi discovered several unusual minerals, including yugawaralite, which had never been found anywhere else in the world before. The Waterfall has two guardian deities: Shusse-daikokuson on the right-hand side and Migawari-inari on the left. There is a teahouse adjacent to the Waterfall, which attracts many visitors, particularly in the summer.

    Hiryu Falls is located in the town of Hakone in Ashigarashimo County. It actually consists of two waterfalls, an upper falls of 15 meters and a lower falls of 25 meters, creating a dynamic torrent that is said to be the largest in Kanagawa Prefecture. No roads lead to the falls, so visitors must leave their cars behind and follow a hiking trail. The name Hiryu means Flying Dragon and it comes from the falls' imagined resemblance to that mythical creature.

    A gorgeous waterfall just 100 meters beyond the Chisuji ryokan inn, itself a 20 minute walk from Kowakidani Station. Located on the upper reaches of the Jakotsu River, Chisuji Falls (“One Thousand Stream Falls”) gets its name from the countless individual streams of falling water which make up the falls as it gushes over a 25 meter wide, three meter high block of bedrock. From new spring greenery to fall colors, visitors are sure to enjoy a spectacular, seasonal sight. In July, “Genji-botaru” fireflies flit about amidst the murmuring of the falls’ pure waters, and many come here seeking to view this magical spectacle.

Kanagawa prefecture acts as an extension of the Tokyo metropolis that spills over into coastal towns, most notably Yokohama city, heavily populated and known for its Chinatown and seaside attractions. Just the right distance for a day trip out of Tokyo, Kanagawa is home to some of Tokyo’s most accessible beaches, including around Kamakura, best known for its Big Buddha. Visitors can also travel a little farther afield for a weekend at Hakone onsen town.
